3S: Springs, Stickers, and Switches
« on: Tue, 14 May 2013, 02:16:50 »
A. Cherry MX Switches - 110 total switches

Cherry MX Black

Cherry MX Blue

Cherry MX Brown

Cherry MX Red Restocking

B. Springs - ~110 total springs

45g
55g
62g
65g
80g

C. Stickers - each page contains 120 total stickers

Black
Blue
Brown
Green
Pink
Orange
White
Yellow

Choose one of the above from A, B, and C.  The total is $65 for one set of 3S.  I have limited stocks of switches, so earlybird gets the item faster.  The rest gets the item later within the month.

At this time, I am taking only Amazon Payments.  I am testing out how this goes, and then I will add this option to the web-site.

I will also do a lube and switch (+sticker) mod service to anyone interested.  I will use Krytox GPL-205 for lube and Krytox GPL-105 for oil.

Please message me here through geekhack with the title "3S Order", http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=6548.

That's a pretty nice price for 110 switches, stickers, and choice of springs. Do you know how many coils the 45g springs have off the top of your head?

Edit - Do buyers also get the stock springs they come with?

Haha, this sounds like a trivia.  I can count it, but I do not know how many coils.  I actually can't check right now because all the items are in the storage room.  I'll make sure to add that in the picture/video in the tutorial or reviews we do.

Okay thanks! I added a question above and I'd also like to know if they're Plate or PCB mount switches.

Stock springs?  Of course, if they are using our services, I'll make sure to add it then too.

I'll have them checked again, but I believe they are PCB mount switches.  I'll update it when I get the response.  The ones I currently have with me are PCB mount, and I only have a few bags left.  Thanks for these questions.  It will definitely help others.

Hmm I may need a whole lot of these switches. A certain someone is being irresponsible with GB right now. How limited is your stock?

If you don't half-ass the lube job, I guarantee you will not be able sustain this rate. After the first few orders at this rate, you'll get sick of lubing and will eventually charge more, or just stop offering this.

Right now, I only have about 2,000 blacks and blues.  500 browns and reds.

More is on the way.

I think I learned my lesson.  I will do only a few at a time.  I'm not sure if everyone will use the spring swap service.  Let me see how this goes.

I'm not sure, but can international buyers use amazon payments as well?

I don't see an option on Amazon to set up an account for their own payments. Unless I pay by CC or something to your amazon account?

Weight, Thickness, Sound, Feel, Quality, etc.
One thing to note before ordering that: those force gauges are rated to a max of 2500 N to 400,000 N. Even if you get the smallest (2500 N), measuring spring force (usually under 3 N for anything up to "super blacks") accurately will be a challenge.

Doing it "right", you'd have some sort of test rig set up with a pin holding the spring straight over a low force meter (I imagine 10 N would be perfect, but I don't know availability) You'll probably have to make something like this.

Also keep in mind, you need something that is precise enough to reliably differentiate between 5 cN of force ('cause the difference between 55 and 60 cN is easily felt in an ergo clear for example) and 1 cN or better is preferable. 1 cN is 1/100 N

Precision force meters are expensive. Here's a 25 N force meter (precise to 0.01 N) that's $600 (and it's the cheaper one!)
http://www.coleparmer.com/buy/product/98552-mark-10-mr03-5-force-sensor-5-lb-x-2-5-kg-x-25-n.html

Here's one I saw on the first site that's more well suited to our ranges (0-500N)
http://www.industrial-needs.com/technical-data/point-force-meter-835.htm

I'm still not sure it's precise enough, though. It could be useful if that dial turns like 100 times over the course of loading 500 N onto it)

Im looking at this and seems the deal Sherry offers is nice, I do like the tactility and sound  of the blue switches but the springs are so light its like pressing on air. What I would like to do is mix blue stem with heavy spring, so question is whats the heaviness of the Korean 65g and 80g vs cherry?  Seems like the 65g Korean is about equal as the spring of blue switch which is around 45g right?  So I would guess the 80g Korean spring should be equal to 60g black or green mx spring right?

Maeby blue switch with 80g Korean springs might be my best option?

Man, thanks a lot for the help.  I'll be shopping for this on Monday.

Yeah, you are right.  The 65g spring is ALMOST as light as the 45g.  It's just a tad heavier, because bottoming out on a 45g spring is 60g.  Bottoming out on a 65g can be heavier though, up to 80g possibly.  I have not taken measurements yet.  If you wanted something heavy, then I recommend 80g with blues, and it would be closer to greens.

Damn, so you're another switch provider.  I'm desperate to buy some BUT it looks like you only want to deal with US citizens (totally understandable).

I just wish you'll offer the opportunity for foreigners to buy some switches (120) plus some extra work of putting some 80g springs in some switches (modifiers) to give a different pressure feeling when using them on let's say, an LZ-GH keyboard.

PLUS I would of paid you to lube them all and apply the stickers to them as well.  I know it would of been a lot of work for you but I am at the desperate stage of trying to buy switches that aren't available anymore in the retail chain.

Please let me know if you'll ever change your mind......

I actually found the switches from GON here on the Vendor Forum.  By pure luck he was selling what I wanted.

I have put too much stress upon alaric already, plus no sign of Prof's switches hence you have to take the initiative yourself and find someone that actually sells switches to foreigners.

I would of bought the switches from you, but alas it's probably better to only deal with your own US citizens and avoid customs rubbish/postage headaches.

I just didn't want to put all that extra pressure upon you, to supply switches and what not.

Any ETA on when you'll have stock in MX Red?

Curious - since it doesn't look like the OP post has been updated since June 05.

I might have a few sets available.  PM ME asap if you want some reds.

Actually just decided to get the Blacks with some 62g springs.  If I swing by for a second kit later, I'll make sure to PM you first.

Thanks, sherry.

Got the kit in earlier this week.  Thanks, sherry, for the quick turnaround.
