MX Clear Longevity
« on: Fri, 24 May 2013, 10:51:27 »
I've heard that MX Clears tend to wear out and become more linear over time due to friction, but how long does that usually take? I'm wondering how much life I can expect to get out of this Ducky before I'll have to replace it.

60% keyboards, 100% of the time.

Doesn't Cherry rate all their switches at 50 million presses?

Apparently POS boards with clears start feeling like stiff browns after 20+ years.

cherry does not rate the "bump" of the switch to 50 million, only the longevity of the actuation process.

Hm, that's good to know. I think 20 years is an acceptable life span for my boards though ^__^

I wouldn't worry about the number of years you can get out of a keyboard switch. It's more likely the electronics will fail way before the stems wear down. *fingers crossed*

After twenty years, people might be searching for 'vintage clears' if we are still using keyboards by then.
