Astro A40 Gaming Headset

Anyone have this with the mix amp? I'm curious how much of a difference the mix amp makes for the headset.

I have the A30 headset with mixamp.  The mixamp is necessary for surround sound, and you need to use either a fiber or coax audio cable going into the mixamp from a high def source.  The game/voice optimization is also pretty cool.  If you don't have the mixamp the headset still sounds pretty good, but it's going to just be stereo.

So would you say it's worth the extra to get the mixamp with the headset? I don't really have the funds to shell out for a set at the moment, but it's something that I'd look into in the future when I do.

I would go Mixamp and ATH AD700s! That setup is pretty killer and is around the same price as just the A40 headset.

and it doesnt have the stupid "gaming" tag on it that makes all "gaming" periphs more expensive than they should be.

I really like the look of the Astro A40s and I'm trying to go for a matching gaming peripheral set.

And yes, I realize that the ATH AD700s and other audiophile headphones are much better sound and quality for the price. No hate pls.

Very true. Plus if you ever need a mic you can get a Antlion Modmic and have an amazing setup for a lot less. Not to mention the A40s still have lots of trouble with poor signal and sub-par build quality... Astro was bought buy Skullcandy, just sayin. :/

Edit: doh! sorry for bashing Astro...  :p

form over function is never the way to go IMO.

just seems like a waste of money to get something sub par compared to other cheaper stuff simply because it'll match

If your looking to match (i would guess black?) go for the ATH AD900s! I have those and they're the jam.

Yes, but I don't really care that great a deal about sound quality in general. I've heard people rave about how comfortable the A40s are and I'm really into gaming so I prefer the convenience of a headset over headphones + mic. I use my headset for games, listening to streams, skype, ventrilo, and I listen to music sometimes while gaming/streaming.

I would get the headset and mixamp as a set, especially for gaming.  It adds a lot of depth to the sound.  However if you really don't care about sound, and are going for comfort, looks, etc., then it isn't necessary.  These sets aren't cheap, I only got mine because I had a $200 gift card to the Microsoft Store, the price for the set was about $200, and everything else there sucked.

Oh yeah! This is what got me to buy AD700s. Then MissAlaire (or someone) posted the sale on the AD900s so I got those too.
Lots of good info.

then you seem pretty set on getting these.

also, not trying to continue to sell you on the ad700s but, these have the be the most ridiculously comfortable headphones i've ever owned. it gets to the point where you forget you have them on.

Have to say ad700 too I used for for nearly 2 years and would routinely forget I was wearing them, the only issue was it messed my hair up  :p
