Hello from NY

Hello GH!

I just recently put a stress crack in one of the keys on my razer tarantula, which I've had for about 7 years, when attempting to clean it. As a result, I started doing some research, which is what led me here.

I had been interested in getting a nice mech for a few years now, but kept putting it on the back burner, as I have more expensive hobbies than I can keep up with and the razer technically 'worked' fine.

After browsing the forums for some 8 hours, oogling all the clicky goodness, I went ahead and ordered a Filco Maj-2 TKL (MX Brown) from Keyboard Company. I don't even have it yet, but I'm already feeling the need to customize it a bit...

First off, I really don't like the dome Windows keys that come stock, so I ordered blank replacement caps. I'm honestly not too sure how I feel about having blank keys in their place, so suggestions would most definitely be appreciated.

I wouldn't have minded a keyboard without windows keys altogether, but as I understand it, those types of boards are really only obtainable when going the custom route (Phantom). The HHK Pro2 also looked nice, but it was a little more than I was looking to spend for a keyboard, not to mention the absence of arrow keys

I had a bit of trouble understanding why people had these giant keyboard collections at first, but after spending hours on here it's all starting to make sense (sadly).

Cheers!

Filco MJ2 with MX browns is a mighty nice keyboard.  You will be hard-pressed to find anything better, in terms of quality.  You picked a great keyboard to start your collection.  My first mechanical keyboard was and still is a Leopold FC200R with MX reds.  I will never sell it, cuz it was the first one.  The only thing that differentiates more expensive keyboards is the feel of the switches, and the feel of the keycaps, and the layout of the keys.  My suggestion for your next keyboard is to save up and get a Topre, so you can compare MX and Topre switches.  $250 seems like a lot to pay for a keyboard when you're new to keyboards, but there a people who have spent $500 on a single keycap, so don't worry about it.  Full-size TKL like RealForce 87U is a safer bet for $250.  If you want to risk your money, buy the HHKB Pro 2.  However, you may not like the layout.  It took me about three weeks to get used to mine, but then again, I'm a slow learner.  I think most people adapt to the Fn layer in much less time.
I ♥ Click Clack.  I ♥♥♥ Bro Caps.
