Looking for suggestions for cool keycaps
« on: Tue, 04 June 2013, 20:18:54 »
Hi,

I have always been a fan of mechanical keyboards ever since I bought my first one a few years ago. I own three as of right now and am looking to customize the one I am currently using ( Leopold Tenkeyless with blue's from elitekeyboards, it has black keycaps)

I recently switched my typing style from using two fingers on each hand ( plus a thumb for spacebar ) to touch typing with all my fingers and with that I would like to get blank keys or graphical keys for the letters and symbols on my keyboard.

I am looking if anyone here could give me suggestions as to what would look cool, so far my only thought is getting white blanks to contrast with the rest of the black keys. ( also my shift, alt, ctrl, esc are colored )

Thanks :)

You can spend days looking through the Group Buys, Classifieds, Vendor subsections. I suggest you do so because your question is impossibly broad to answer. LMGTFY almost applies here.

My suggestion would be to find a good blank PBT set. There is a GB right here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=43328.0 but don't expect your set for several more months.

Thanks for the link, I guess what I expected out of this thread was either ideas people have had or pictures of keyboards they thought looked nice which have some sort of keykap modifications.

The problem with a lot of cool keycaps sets is that many cannot be easily acquired, like those from old group buys. The coolest ideas haven't been thought up yet!

Watch Classifieds like a hawk. Group buys are fine too for new sets but the lag time is huge (a few months to 2 years in the case of Round4).

As you can tell I am pretty new here so I don't really know what you mean by classifieds. Could you give me a link or something?
Maybe someone could show me where good places to buy keycaps are. The only places I know of are wasdkeyboards and mechanicalkeyboards   .com

It would help if you could be more specific about the type of caps you are looking for, like even just colors and stuff to point you in the right direction if they even exist as a ready to buy option.

Well I saw a screenshot on here a while ago that was really interesting, the 37 center keys were all hammer and sickle printed red keys.
I also liked a screenshot i saw on wasdkeyboards that had grey and green diagonals through the 37 center keys

*edit
Does anyone know of some place that sells high quality clear keycaps?

*edit 2

Is it possible to buy a 37 key set with two separate colors? does any company offer this kind of order customization?

Don't forget to look at the "geekhack media" forum. Specifically, threads like, "post your ...." threads. Just browse all the keyboard porn, pick something you like, and maybe send the user a pm if you have questions about what they have or where they got it.  :)
