O-rings please help!
« on: Mon, 10 June 2013, 09:29:04 »
Greetings, I've decided to use o-rings on my keyboard. I found a decent seller but there is a problem. I don't know what material to choose. Would someone recommend, which material is best for keyboard use (picture)?

Check the WASD website to see what their o-rings are made out of. I *think* its NBR but you should check.

Those are very hard rings.

It might be worth paying a keyboard specialist's price to get nice soft rings in the 40-50 range.

I surely would. But the price of the rings and shipping is too damn high! I've bought 4 o-rings in other shop and they are good. Keyboard is silent and more responsive (Cherry MX black). But the saleswoman wasn't able to tell me what material they are.

WASD say, it's EPDM...

And the dimensions... The o-rings I bought should be 4 mm by 1,5 mm. Is that correct for keyboard use? I tried them and they fit pretty fine. But just for shure... ;)

If it fits and you've already tried it, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Thanks, unfortunately, they don't ship to the Czech Republic :D I will try to find local seller but this is a industry product, co it is hard to find a store which will allow to sell only about 100 of those rings. I was lucky to get four and I still payed for like 20 of them...

Language barrier. And we can't copy/paste text from a picture into google translate.

Typically you'd want 40A softness, which can't really be found unless they're custom made. 70A is typical and common, but they're a bit hard. Almost any material should be ok. Keyboards don't operate under conditions that require resistance to high temperatures, chemicals, or high abrasion. Any material will be ok, typical ones will be Nitrile, EPDM, or silicone.

Check a tattoo/piercing shop.  O-rings are used for single flare body jewelry.
