I've bought from clears from them before. Make sure you account for state tax. I believe they charge tax in most states.

Not saying that you are not trust worthy, but you are a new member to the site and people may be weary of buying.
Also, FWIW, ask JDCarpe for his TaoBao Clear source, I believe there was no MOQ and it was .50-something a switch IIRC.

Good point, WhiteFireDragon. Added the extra $0.06 to each switch to compensate.

Also a good point, SmallFry. I'm aware it is a long shot but it doesn't seem like there is anything else viable going on. Gotta start somewhere...

Hey Ryan Uber!

Should you not reach the MOQ, I can help you out and send you the clears for 0.54 EUR (~$0.72) per switch, by end of July, for just 4 EUR ($5.31).

Updated post to be more clear about tax.

7bit, thanks, if this doesn't pan out, I'll definitely PM you about that! Curious, how many do you have available?

I'm pretty certain 7bits clear's are all pre-order and I already placed my switch orders from 7bit since pexon closed his group buy or else I'd offer to help with buying these.

As far as I can tell, there is no sales tax from Mouser for shipping to Illinois - I'm tempted to just order 500 and sell what I don't need via classifieds, although I don't want to undermine the GB...

Shipping to the buyer from Mouser is pretty cheap, too - there is a $5 low cost USPS option (although I'd probably do the $7 USPS priority mail option).  So, 500 switches would cost $371.99, effective switch price would be approx 74.4 cents per switch.  Assuming GB participants don't order more than 100 or so switches, you could ship these out to US-based GB participants via a USPS priority mail small flat rate box for $5.15.

I also found onlinecomponents.com, which is a bit cheaper ($0.69 per switch for 500+): http://www.onlinecomponents.com/cherry-electrical-mx1ac1nn.html?p=11075427 - shipping for 500 switches would be $9.95, so $354.99/500 = about $.71 per switch - anyone ever use them as a vendor before?

Wow - sounds great Dianoda. I would also be interested in purchasing from onlinecomponents. If no one chimes in with anything negative about them, perhaps we should switch the vendor for this buy to them.

Looks like the cheapest postage rate within the US will be $6.35 via USPS. So with a $0.69 switch price and no tax, it seems like a pretty sweet deal.

We are already almost at the MOQ of 500. I updated the main post with total switches and orders so far. We could get this going even earlier than anticipated and get the $0.69/swich pricing if no one who has already ordered would object to buying from http://www.onlinecomponents.com/cherry-electrical-mx1ac1nn.html?p=11075427 instead of Mouser. Any opposed to changing vendors?

I'm sure you already know this, but these are definitely Filco-compatible. I am typing on a set of these exact clears in a Filco right now.

Updated main post to reflect OnlineComponents since there seems to be no hard feelings against them here. I have an inquiry in to them to confirm that the 1800 pcs displayed stock on their site is actually true. Will update here when they respond. Otherwise this is looking like it will be a go :)

What is your plan for shipping and final costs per switch, Ryan Uber?

In other words, should I expect to pay for 60 switches shipped within continental U.S.?  $0.69 per switch does not reflect shipping cost to you--unless you won't be including that.

Shipping cost from the distributor to me will be around $10. I'd pay that to have them shipped to me anyways so I won't split hairs on this one - I'll take care of shipping from the distributor to me, you guys just need to cover from me to you.

Everyone, I am thinking we might need to close orders now and get this order in. OnlineComponents has 1485 in stock now and we are at 985 switches. One purchase from OnlineComponents by someone else might wreck this GB.

Any opinions?

Edit: Nevermind -- I was looking at the wrong tab. Sorry!

I am ready for cut-off now and getting that order in. Maybe we can cut it off at the end of today to allow anyone to change the number of switches etc. I'll start sending invoices today to speed this whole thing up if we close it early. I'll also update the main post with a note about this.

We should probably add the order deadline to the thread title (edit: include the timezone, too. ie, orders close 6/14 at 11:59PM CST, etc.).

Also, once we have the final order quantity, contact onlinecomponents for a shipping quote - it looks like shipping is not flat-rate if the order total is >$399.99.  Additionally, if the shipping quote is more than $19.90, we could just split the order in half to get the order totals to under $400 again (assuming the final order quantity is greater than 1000 switches and less than 1160 switches), in which case, each order would qualify for the $9.95 flat-rate shipping option they offer.

Thanks Dianoda - excellent points. You must have done a few group buys before yourself. Updated the title, and waiting on a reply from onlinecomponents with the current numbers. I figure it will at least be a pretty good estimate, and if we end up with more switches being added we can go from there.

Out of curiosity, would anyone have a problem moving the payment date up as well? The important thing is that we get the order completed soon. I guess it will be more apparent once the invoices are sent :) Hopefully most folks will move quickly.

Hello,

We dont provide quotes, the pricing is as listed online. If the order total goes over $399.99, it doesn't qualify for flat rate shipping so the total for shipping is unknown.

Thank you,

Not very helpful... Anyone know what the typical weight of a cherry switch module is for estimation? Otherwise maybe the order split is a good idea so that at least the cost is known.

Not very helpful... Anyone know what the typical weight of a cherry switch module is for estimation? Otherwise maybe the order split is a good idea so that at least the cost is known.

PCB Plate mount Cherry MX switches are approximately 1.6g per switch.

Your 80 switch order will push the total number of switches over 1158, which will be a grand total of more than $800, which means that I would need to pay for 3x flat rate boxes. I was OK with handling 2 on my own but I can't do the 3rd without being compensated for distributor shipping to me. I mentioned this in the main thread. If you are ok with paying the distributor's cost of $6.95 extra for the extra switches, then I can definitely do this for you.
