ITAC systems trackballs [a few]
« on: Fri, 21 June 2013, 00:42:04 »
I have for sale, a few ITAC systems Mouse-Trak industrial USB trackballs. These are very nice opto-mechanical sensors, and ball bearings. I have used one for a few months and it's pretty much awesome. The PCB is spill resistant.

These are used, and show signs of use. I've picked out the best ones here.

I am selling these on behalf of another GH'er who wants to share the love. I'm only in charge of shipping and fulfulment.

notable features:
USB
ball bearings / steel shaft
Spill-resistant PCB
Omron Microswitches (note not all came with omrons, some have a different microswitch for the middle and right click. I will gladly choose your preference)
Tested and working well
I will likely be modifying mine to use a laser sensor (I'm still picking which of my trackballs to modify this way)

Notice: some scratches on the housing

Look introspectively into the sunset:

Alternate Style

(note: these only have omron switches for the left click)

---
I have taken lots of interior photos and can provide them within a few days if wanted.

Price will be $35 + shipping. Please PM me if interested. I will post updates here.

---
Note: this is the reference model.

Hey Dorkvader

I have a similar trackball and was wondering how to change the ps2 cable to a usb. It's big, clumsy and feel solid but not moving very well (maybe mine is older and a bit rusted). How do you know what are omrons? I opened it and the mouse switches inside look surprisingly small.

Do you have any suggestions how to make the mouse function better? Having used kensingtons for a long time, I find itak's ball ridiculously heavy.

On another note, I think you offered relegendable buckling spring caps to me on another thread, but you missed my reply. I'm looking for around 30 because I love having hotkeys and macros on my 122-key monster.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

I actually contacted them about PS2 functionality. It does depend on the model, and they said the controller needs to be reprogrammed for it. I dont think its really feasible.

If yours is not moving, there may be a spot of dirt on the ball; this can cause a bit of a "tight spot" where its harder to move. Other than that look at the bearings. It's just a few phillips head screws

As far as the switches, They are labelled omron on the top and are most likely the same as you see in mouses They are only rated for 1 million clicks, though. Fortunately they are easy to replace. The other microswitches don't have any model number or brand markings that I could see, but are square instead of rectangular. They are present in the "type II" housing with the larger palmrest.

Hmm, Well the ball appears to be made of the same phenolic resin as many trackballs, but it's a bit smaller than assimilation, CST, or CH trackballs. I dont find it heavy at all, as it's lighter than those (that I'm used to). I suspect your kensington ball might be hollow or something.

Yeah, I must've missed that. Just PM me with what you need (so I remember), and I'll check what I have.

Ok update: there are now several more available, I will have to doublecheck, but I believe there are now 6 available.

Some more info:

2" ball
the ball contacts a .125" diameter hardened steel  shaft (2 ball bearings) and there are 12 "teeth". this equates to roughly 384 counts per revolution

They roll really well on the ball bearings.

Lots of trackball lovers here on GH I'm sure, just haven't browsed classifieds at the right time.

im interested in another trackball but im addicted to the scrolling function (scroll wheel) on the kensington, i keep turning the ball when i use my cheap logitech trackball and get disappointed and i imagine i would dislike using another mouse without a scroll wheel.

Update: everyone who is interested in one, thanks for the interest and your patience. I now have enough box materials to start weighing and mailing these.

The center button of the trackball counts as middle click and can be used to scroll pages in windows7&8. For linux, you can probably set up scroll lock or similar to work. I don't like how on the CST's you have to hold it down or whatever.
