I want a model m spacesaver. I have seen a few on ebay and want to know what one should expect to pay. Are there other options outside of ebay?

thanks

That one is crazy. I wonder if those control and alt keys are aftermarket. And the shipping cost is just insane. Plus, it's not an 84 key AT keyboard, it's an 84 key space saver — there is a difference, as most of us here would know. The 84 key AT is huge and IIRC some have capacitive switches.

elmomax, I got two of them here for not that much, but there are good people to deal with here, In fact, most of my best keyboards have come from this site in one way or another, so ask around. Neither of mine are for sale, so I'm sorry I can't help you out. And have a couple saved searches on eBay, then they email you when one shows up.

Well Vic, whip out your ****, err, just send me a Topre 86 and I'll give one of my minis away.

To answer your question a little more seriously, I am keeping both these M minis and the MK96 but I'd sell the Northgate cheep for parts. I'll be eBaying my HHKB Lite 1 as soon as I buy another keyboard.

What I meant was, I intend to replace that keyboard so I can see if I'll be able to live without the HHKB layout. I was something real similar to the M mini I'm on, like an M4 or an IBM space saver II that I can jsut leave at work. See, wouldn't a Topre 86 fit real nice into this rotation?

I'm beyond thinking of one keyboard at a time, I'm starting to think of things in rotations. If you look at the M mini, Topre 86 and the IBM space saver II, they all have nearly identical layouts but vastly different switches, so it'll take me less to time to fully switch back and forth between them, which I'm known to do.

And with my desk the way it is now with the keyboard shelf, have one M mini I'm using, the other stored, and space for another keyboard on the top shelf. I think it's pretty bad ass.

That keyboard looks like some kind of word processor keyboard... and, IIRC, I've seen a few weird Model M2s with those Ctrl and Alt keys, so...

Also, IIRC, there was a model of PS/2 that was mainly a word processor. Successor to the DisplayWriter or whatever it was called.

xsphat - so I should just watch Ebay then and hope and pray I can beat out the other vultures. And if I am fortunate someone from our site will be selling a keyboard. I can be patient and delay gratification on this for a few minutes. I visited the website that sells model m' s- believe it is clickykeyboards - and they are sold out on every last space saver. Drat.

Thanks

xsphat - and yes i know the folks on this site are great to deal with. my smk-85 came from a great guy on this site :) I spend lots of time on that keyboard everyday but I want to rotate a bit and try something new though I am not above snagging another SMK-85 if it came my way. Hope your son is doing well.

One question which will definitely signal me out as non-geek out of the know... but that is fine with me.  Can one use a Mac keyboard such as the Macally MK96 with a PC.  I can probably google away to find the answer or ask some tech guy at work, but figured I would fess up to my ignorance and ask this group!

Absolutely.

You'll need a USB<>ADB adapter (like the iMate) though.

iMav - thanks, I am so embarrassed to be posing such basic questions among this group of geeks :) So I can go to ebay and look for an iMate or look for USB ADB adaptor. So all you need is a way to plug the board in to your PC. Simple. Well I can now qwench my thirst for a new keyboard while I wait patiently for a model M spacespaver to be available. This is your fault you know -- you have gotten us all on the buckling springs bandwagon.

I believe you are correct about that. Wonder if you could map those keys to Word?
