New to GH, new to keyboard !
« on: Thu, 04 July 2013, 11:25:07 »
Hi,

I made you a (very) brief introduction of myself and my stuff: I'm living in France and I registered on Geekhack (not yet on deskthority) because I'm in the Massdrop group buy for Ergodox mechanical kit (round 3). It will be my first mechanical keyboard and I'm very impatient! Mine will come in full-hand with MX Clear switches and blank DSA caps (difference betwin DSA/DCS is that one is curved?). I'm actually buying some Krytox/victorinox oil and grease to Limmy for the switches. I plan on making "ergo-clear" but I don't know if I should take 62g springs or 65g.

So, that's why I know Geekhack, which seems to be a friendly place :) !

Interesting first board, I maybe mistaken but isn't 60+ grams a little heavy for ergo clears (I am sure that someone else will correct me) but anyway. Welcome to Geekhack :p

62g Korean springs are generally what people use for ergo-clears. Korean springs are measured on their bottom out force, while original Cherry springs are measured on actuation. Therefore 60g~ Korean springs are lighter than 60g~ Cherry springs.

Welcome to Geekhack Julian. Lubricated ergo-clears and the ergodox are both thought of very highly by quite a lot of people. I'm sure you'll enjoy them both. Enjoy your stay!

Thank you Photek and SeriouSSpotS  :)

I forgot the website which sells 65g or 62g springs for about $8. It was something with "creative" inside, but they don't specify if the springs were Korean or not ! I think that this Ergodox will be a great enter inside mechanical keyboards world. I'm also getting 61 MX Red switches (~$25) to mix with the Ergodox MX Clear.

The website is Originative The springs they sell are korean springs. Most people recommend 62 or 65g springs for ergo clears.

Also, Originative has a vendor forum here which can be found here. The site owner is called Sherryton.

Hello and welcome to GH!

I'm actually ordering 62g springs (and some other stuff) to put in my ergoDOX (with clears)! I have it all soldered up and working except the switches, and I'm excited to finally get it done.

The ergoDOX is indeed a great keyboard. There are some members here who just rave about it! I would say it's a good keyboard if you can type "properly" which I still can't (at speed) but I plan to properly fix that with my ergoDOX!

Photekq is right: you can get springs from sherryton at origintiveco. There are other places as well, of course. Good luck with your ergoDOX.

I am buying krytox oil, victorinox oil and MX red switches to Limmy. Maybe I can buy springs to Sherryton, he send it to Limmy who send it to me ? That would be great, I'll ask Limmy and Sherryton if it's possible!

Thank you Photekq for the name of the company Originative and the owner :)
