What keyboard should I get ?
« on: Fri, 05 July 2013, 10:15:55 »
Hello geekhack.org community !

So I've been using a rubberdome for the last few months, because my Razer Blackwidow broke down ( in my personal opinion it was pretty bad in quality).

So I decided to pick up a new mechanical keyboard .

I would like to have a mechanical keyboard with brown switches and preferably TKL but which is not a must.

I primarily game on my computer up to 6+ hours of starcraft 2 on weekends. So I thought brown would be the best for RTS.

Given that I live in Germany it's really hard to get a mechanical keyboard with brown switches and I might get one delivered from USA somewhere else.

I'm about to travel to Hongkong in August , are there any good factories or sellers for mechanical keyboards? If so are they cheaper in Hongkong and do you get the same quality?
So in the end is it worth waiting to travel to hongkong and get one there or should I just order it ?

Regards

Toki

There is no switch that is better or worse for playing video games/RTS. I've played SC2 on Blues/Rubber Domes, and I've played Borderlands 2 on Buckling Springs/Greens/Whites. Its all about your personal preferences.

Get a filco MJ2 TKL with browns.  It's a very high quality board IMO been using mine for a month.

do0de since your living in Deutschalnd best easiest to get is as Danule wrote Filco MJ2 TKL (obviously with browns). I'm also playin sc2 but currently on greens ones ->apm ~200. Blue are cool too for gaming. It's all relative, nobody can say to me that like red/blacks are for gaming it's about you and only that (i got huge problem with using buckling springs for gaming:D). For quality with cherry only Filco and Ducky maybe Zowie. But you are in win/win situation without any problems you are able to get one of those keyboards in Europe and in HongKong your in best ever place to get decent gaming keyboard.

Fellow German here, you can get a KBT Pure with MX Browns from German Amazon, but since you're a SC2 player I guess you don't want a 60%. If you want German layout you can get a Filco from keyboardco, it's a pretty popular and solid TKL board: click me

i would agree with this.. but i think lighter switches are definitely better for RTS games like starcraft if you're playing at a high level.

I play about 4-5 hours of starcraft a day and about 10 hours on weekends. while using a black switch board.. it is very hard to keep the same level of play for multiple hours. personally, i feel browns and blues are the best for games like SC2.

mechanicalkeyboards.com and keyboardco.com ship to Europe and more specifically Germany. they both carry high quality tkl brown switch boards.

as for waiting to go to hong kong, you could probably find a lot of duckys, keycools, and filcos around there depending where you go. the difference in quality would be much different than if you were to order, but if you order, it probably allows you to return/exchange if anything were to go wrong.

i would suggest the Poker II but i don't know how good it is because i just ordered one a few minutes ago  ;D
