Wow! This deal almost seems like a mistake.

I actually wanted this mouse only because of the blue white color scheme.

"This rebate is in USD currency and may be paid with a prepaid reward card."

Does that mean they may/could pay me back with a gift card for tigerdirect or something instead of actual money I can send to my bank account?

most of the rebates I have received have been prepaid debit cards (visa). I used them for groceries.

I hope that isn't the case. Is there a way to find out?

Most mail in rebates give you prepaid debit cards back, either as a Visa or AMEX.

STAY AWAY FROM TOTAL DEFENSE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

All you need to do from what I've been reading is just activate the software to fulfill the MIR... you don't need to keep it installed or anything and can just cancel the renewal stuff.

Good Luck fighting the charges on your CC and don't hold your breath on the rebate, if you get one they tend to be a lot less than what it was supposed to be. Just gonna say it one more time, STAY AWAY FROM TOTAL DEFENSE.

I didn't know I have to install it. If that's the case, I'll pass.

You do not have to install Total Defense to get the rebate. The rebates are through 4myrebate, which I believe has a pretty good record, all the rebates I've done lately (and I've done several through them) have gone through just fine. As for the CC in activation, folks can use a prepaid with $1 left or a virtual card number to authorize the $1.

There are many people who have bought bundle deals that include Total Defense and have gotten their rebates back just fine and haven't had to deal with any extra CC charges.

Those that haven't outweigh the ones that have. There are so many horror stories about Total Defense that I don't even bother reading the deals unless to inform others about what they are getting into. If you don't mind jumping through hoops, wasting your time ( which is money ) and tying up your money for months on end, go ahead and gamble.  If you really think about what you have to do, it's not worth the trouble, at least to me it isn't. The rebate process may have gotten better but why stick your hand out in front a dog that used to bite poeple but now you are told it doesn't bite?.

In addition to the Total Defense junk, I wouldn't take a MadCatz mouse if you paid me.

There are definitely better mice out there. The RAT 3 has a different sensor than the RAT 5/7 though, so it doesn't suffer from the glitchy sensor that those have. Not too bad for $10 + shipping though.

It's not just the sensor, but the build quality and the long term durability.

I've started just buying Amazon gift cards with these things.  You can pretty much buy it in any amount you want.

Btw for anyone who was wondering or unsure about Total Defense... just got my $60 MIR from this deal in the mail today. I think people have problems filling out rebates or something and then ***** about it.

MIR forms are notorious for being "lost" in the mail. I had one instance where mine got lost. I wrote a long letter, and sent in 7 different copies of it the second time. I received it then. Since then, I always send multiple copies of my rebates, and I always receive them just fine.
