The what did I just buy game!
« on: Tue, 16 July 2013, 17:30:20 »
I just won two ebay auctions at 10p w/ collection, now I thought it might be some fun if you guess what is under the cap and then when I pick them up I take a more detailed look, clean them and update the thread with some pictures and some mini reviews.

First the easy one, NTC KB-6252EA
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171070677509?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
So here is the DT wiki entry http://deskthority.net/wiki/NTC_KB-6251, now I am going to be pessimistic say it will have white alps which might in reality be reallllly fake (see: http://deskthority.net/photos-videos-f8/clicker-a-semi-mechanical-alps-wannabe-t4861.html)

Lets hope for some alpy goodness though  :))

Now to the wild card the DELL/Key Tronic E03484UK
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171070678767
My best guess is this is some sort of Model M clone and it will be a real rubbery disappointment, I asked the seller for some pictures on this one, but I couldn't get hit to pop a cap for me  :(

If any UK member guesses correctly and are coming to the meetup(http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45465), I will buy you a beer!

I think the keytronic keyboards with the curved plates are rubber domes.

Weren't some of those "old logo" Dells equipped with highly desirable Alps, such as pinks?
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Yes, but we've seen that Keytronic before and it's a dome board. One of the more desirable/better dome boards, but still a dome board.

The Dells with the rare Alps are rarer than hens teeth. But to my knowledge, they're all AT101W frame.

What ALPS do they have though? Pink ALPS = salmon? I still have a M0118 Apple keyboard with salmon ALPS, so if people would be just searching that Dell for the switches... :)
Btw. I don't think you will have much luck with those boards unfortunately, I wish you the best of luck nevertheless.

All I hope for is a new type of ALPS switch to try, legit blues or whites and I will be happy for my 20p + travel time.
