I've been using this keyboard at work for more than 10 years and have been extremely happy with it. Now I want to buy a new keyboard for my home PC, and I'm looking for one with similar switches. The problem is that the G81 switches don't look like any of the MX switches that are currently popular:

Among the red/blue/brown/black MX switches, which one has the closest feel to the G81 switches?

They're Cherry MY switches. Closest thing would be MX dark greys.

The keyboard I'm interested in (CM QuickFire Rapid) is only available with red/blue/brown/black switches, and locally (I live in Israel) is only available with red/blue. I can order from abroad, but I'd rather buy locally if there's something close enough. Can you suggest which will be closest to the MY switch among the red/blue/brown/black MX switches?

Thanks. I think I'll look for the a version with the black switches, though article like this make me feel that I may be missing a lot by choosing a switch without tactile feedback...

This guy knows what's up. All of you who say MY is something other than amazing are in denial or ignorance.

OP, the only place to get MY switches are on Cherry G81 boards, such as that one. For your next board, I would suggest a G81-1800 series board. Google it and be amazed. The layout is perfect. It has all the keys while maintaining a somewhat compact layout.

I don't think you were here when I sold all my stuff. That was because I had finally seen the light, and didn't need MX stuff anymore.

Reading everywhere that the Blue MX switches are the best for typing convinced me to get a CM QFR keyboard with these switches. I guess I should have ordered a sampler first...

After three weeks I can finally say that I much prefer the MY switches. I actually like the concept of an audible feedback (even more so than tactile feedback) and this is probably why I tend to bottom-out with force when using most keyboards. With that said, the metallic sound of the Blue MX switches is almost cringe-worthy, and their "scratchy" feel doesn't help make things better.

Is there a tenkeyless keyboard with MY switches?

No tkl with MY. It's a shame.

As mentioned before, the 1800 is pretty close in size to a tenkeyless if you are after something smaller, and of course the G81 version of it has MY switch. Should be able to pick up used for under $30.

The G81-1800 doesn't have standard layout, so it's not really an option. I can live with the numpad being an external device as long as the rest of the keys are laid out normally, but this one doesn't.

I wonder how different the MX Black switched are compared to the MY? The QFR is available with MX Black, so perhaps that's a reasonable option.
