Dubstep.

don't be ashamed

It's not the music I'm ashamed of really. It's the rave scene that follows.

oooo indeed
there's specific crowds associated with general subgenres, but 'raves' are pretty bad haha

the only thing i would remotely be ashamed of listening to is some of Archie V's early music. He is a brony, and made music this vocals/tunes from the show, MLP. He has his whole story, and i've told it a few times in the IRC, but basically he doesn't associate his image with ponies anymore, but the older (brony) versions of his songs are better imo

I'm not a brony lol, but playing him in my car, with the windows done, i get some looks

I get looks for most of the **** I listen to, so I just kind of tune it out at this point. I think Arkona in particular is a band that gets a heavy dose of bizarre looks, but **** it. It's good stuff! :D

i just listened to a song, but i can see that happening
donesn't matter though lol

<- that's the most 'brony' song has he done, vocally. it's the most childish lyrics, but has such a nice melodic drop...that's the one i talk about when i say people look when i have the windows down...most of his other stuff has snippets of some of the voices here and there, but i don't care about that.

"Dubstep" or dubstep? If it's the latter, there's no need to be ashamed.

If I'm honest.. I'm not ashamed of anything I like.

Is there a difference?

Also, this:

I think the beat reminds me of my childhood/good times.

"Dubstep" = Skrillex etc.. Not actually dubstep, but people seem to think it is.
Dubstep = real dubstep. usually very calming, deep music, nothing like "dubstep".

I had to google trap and uh some of it's cool but it sounds like the type of music we used to say is "future music" back in the 90's. Kinda funny actually. Some of it is pretty good though.

most stuff that gets labeled trap is really weak electronic whatever blah blah. real trap is rap music about selling crack with sub bass instead or in addition to kick drums, high frequency hi hats with lots of trills at 16th/32nd/sometimes even 64th notes. its usually pretty sparse, bass heavy and hard hitting -- good for vocal accompaniment about how much money you have and all the ass you get while cooking and selling rocks.

Ahh see. I was referring to "dubstep", Skrillex mainly because of the harder beats. I like the cores; hardcore, deathcore, metalcore, ect so breakdowns and stuff appeal to me.

What's the main difference between the two. Usually when I see people bust out the brostep comment, they're some elitist pretentious music snob who's trying to denigrate some music they don't like.  When I hear dubstep, I think stuff like the following:

Even though I am a bit peeved about how they labeled that part of EDM as trap, I still love it because it is the closest that EDM gets to hip-hop for me. I love trap music in the hip-hop sense.

I am ashamed to be loving Clarity...It just gets me pumped and happy. I scream it at my campers in the morning XD. Also, some Rihanna songs. I don't like her as a singer but some songs are just fun to dance to.

Some might call me an elitist when it comes to drum and bass and dubstep. I don't think any genre is bad - music is entirely a matter of opinion. However, it annoys me when people confuse brostep and dubstep, or when people call a song with no prominent drums drum and bass.

Brostep is so different to dubstep. Here are examples of proper dubstep. They're slower, calmer, deeper and stronger than brostep. They don't have any of the screeches, and any 'wob' noises are far less prominent. Slow(ish) drums and deep bass - that's true dubstep. :

Do you understand what I mean now? Again, I'm not saying brostep is bad. I'm just saying brostep is far different from dubstep.
