Topre 45g vs 55g vs Browns vs Blues
« on: Sun, 28 July 2013, 18:23:11 »
So I think I might be getting a Topre instead of a MJ2 or QFR w/Reds. Though I was wondering how Topre 45g and 55g compare to Browns and Blues which are supposed to be 45g(55g peak) and 50g(60g peak). I comfortably type on both of the switches they don't feel to light or too heavy but I think I do prefer Browns a little more over the Blues. I haven't got access to a Cherry MX Red KB but I think a friend is obtaining one soon and I can see how much time I can spend with one of those in the future. What do you Topre owners think?

I've owned a 55g gram topre board and they were some of the most comfortable and pleasant feeling switches I've ever typed on.  I'm thinking that if you prefer lighter switches in the mx variety than the 45g might be an easier transition for you.  It's a very subjective thing like most keyboard switches, but some people here have said they find the variable weight boards a little too light and mushy and like the spring back from the 55g more.  With either one you're getting a real quality board and I'm sure you'll be satisfied either way, good luck with you decision!

I just ordered the Realforce 87u 55g from EK. From what i've read is that the 55g is pretty strong at first but once you break it in it will feel like a 45g that isn't broken in. I heard that 45g topre once broken in it feels mushy (which might be better if you prefer lighter switches).

If you prefer blues over browns I would say get the 55g
If you prefer browns/reds over blues I would say get the 45g.

If you cannot afford a topre I would say my switch I would get would be the cherry mx clears because they are similar to browns but with more of a tactile bump. Keep an eye out for WASD v2 with clears and the FC660M (from qtan, a vender here @ keyboardwow.com) is where you can buy the leopold mx clears.

Do some google searches:

I heard that reds are good for gaming but not so much typing, browns and blues are in between I would say and from what I've heard are good overall aswell.

I would stay away completely from variable, people say that 30g is really too light if you were to rest your pinkys you might be holding a key down.
You'll get more feedback from 55g but most likely smoother with 45g.
