Vintage Typewriter MOD Update #2
« on: Wed, 31 July 2013, 13:42:52 »
Made some additional progress.  These don't have the WHITE letters with Black.  I'm still playing around with FONTS.  Probably needs to be larger.  But anyway.  I did like the RED and Green caps.  Please ignore the white case.  This is getting removed. :)

One more thing, if you can tell, I needed like 2.5 typewriter keycaps because as  you know, old glass typewriter keycaps come in sets of 50 ish.  Another big problem is they are rusty and sticky so I destroyed quite a few unravelling them.  Also, I didn't realize just how many TYPEWRITER models there are.  There are SO many and they ALL are slightly different.  I get these on Craigslist and eBAY so just acquiring and restoring these keycaps were a NIGHTMARE.  haha anyway!  I tried to keep the Function Keys one type and the Alpha keys another.  But yeah, they are slightly different.

This guide showed how to use "regular" components like buttons and craft hardware to build custom keys.

Oh yeah!

Datamancer and the steampunk keyboard guys have been a HUGE inspiration for me.  The only thing about buttons (I did a bunch of tests) just didn't "feel" good.

It "looks" good but when you typed on it, it felt a bit too flimsy.  But yeah, I've certainly made my trips down to Joanns' and other craft stores!

I know this is a super old thread, just wondering if there's a sequel or different thread somewhere?
