WTT: Handmade artisan jewelry for a TKL or 60%
« on: Thu, 01 August 2013, 22:37:57 »
Well, I'm one of the unlucky who got into this world through Razer. I was lucky enough to realize my mistake, and got my wife a custom keycap WASDKeyboard, and she loves the thing, but being half way around the world, I couldn't steal it from her when my BWU bit it (about 7 months into owning the damn thing)

So I'm in the market, and I'm already hurting on funds. Single income family, and soldier's don't get paid very well. Plus, we've got a 14 month old baby at home, that doesn't leave a very large budget for clacks. So I'm trading and selling pieces of my hobbies (read, equipment) like wetshaving, as well as products of my hobbies.

WTT:
Jewelry! Earrings, Bracelets, Necklaces! I work with Stainless Steel, Titanium and Sterling Silver, but love doing custom work, and am happy working with any metals (though I might try to convince you out of using aluminum)
Examples of my work can be found at my etsy shop:
www.etsy.com/shop/calmb4tehpwn

If you'd like to purchase something, please contact me here, so we can do a deal here. I actually hate using etsy, and have had only bad experiences there. But as it's already set up, it works as a gallery.

Additionally, here's a quick shot of my current bracelet and necklace projects.

Also for Sale/Trade:

Well used Razer Mamba. Anybody looking for a good deal, and an opportunity to try one of these bad boys out here's the opportunity.
It's about 2 years old, and I haven't had a lot of luck using it wirelessly. Of course, I never use a mousepad and I've come to the assumption that that's the difference. If I'm on a good surface, wireless seems to work fine, and wired works well either way. She's got a couple scratches, on the top, a good amount of wear on the bottom and is missing a couple of the pads on the bottom.
Does not come with box, includes USB Cable, mouse, one battery and wireless station. Looking for $40 shipped, and that's as low as I'd like to go.

Razer BW 2013. The USB cable has a short near the keyboard, bending the cable the wrong way causes a bluescreen. Unfortunately, I use my keyboard in my barracks room, and it moves between recliner and bed, so all the movement would give me 2-3 BSODs a week, and that's not acceptable for me. I've had it for like four months, got some shine on the spacebar. This is a good buy for anyone who is happy keeping their keyboard in one spot, wants to recable the thing, or desolder and claim the switches. $35 shipped

WTTF:

A keyboard.

Acrylic TKL Case to fit QFR

as for a keyboard, I'm looking for something that's popular to mod, so I can find a new case for it pretty easily (or something that comes with an aluminum case already would be cool.)
I'm find getting a cheap poker II with no mods, or something with a titanium case, and titanium keys and everything, so long as we're pretty even on the trade.

So here what I'm looking to do on the trades:
First off, anything on my etsy shop I hold at a 3/4 trade value for you guys. If it's 100 on the site, it's worth 75 in a trade.
Second, I prefer a straight trade, but am able to put up maybe $50 on my side, maybe more for a special keyboard.
Third, I'm happy taking cash on your end as well. If you've got a cheap keyboard but want a $450 silver earring/bracelet/necklace set, we can definitely work something out.

Any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to PM me, and I might be interested in thing

I REALLY LOVE DOING CUSTOM WORK

Edit:
I accept paypal only for payments going either direction, and paypal fees will be assumed in any prices mentioned.
I am on a US Army post in south korea. Anything coming to me will require a brief customs form (takes 45 seconds to fill out) but will be considered CONUS shipping (you can send domestic flat rate to me, otherwise the shipping costs come out to equal shipping anything to California, because that's where the army takes control of it and moves it the rest of the way.
Anything coming FROM me, will be sent USPS, and will take about 5 days longer than you would normally expect for domestic shipping.

thanks! They are all handmade, I assemble them one ring at a time using various weaves. Most of these weaves began as chainmaille weaves (medieval chain armor) and have evolved in elegant and beautiful jewelry.

I've been doing this for about 12 years now (since I was 14) and trust me when I say, my work didn't always look this nice.

I like your work.

Just a suggestion, if you could make a silver cap I am pretty sure you would find someone to trade their custom keyboard for.

Like, a silver beanie cap?

Unfortunately the amount of sterling silver involved in that would drive the cost... absurdly high. I'd have to look into the amount of materials it would take, but we're looking at like a pound or two of silver, which is running in the 550-600 dollar range just for materials. Also, I could be making a poor estimate, it could be significantly more.

Hahahaha, a silver beanie, that would snap your neck in half. Nice stuff though, wonder if you could make custom metal keypullers?
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Nah, Silver beanie would weigh a good couple pounds but I'm making myself a coif in what turns out to be a mistake of a weave choice. It's super dense.

I've been thinking. I think the best way to do a silver chainmaille keycap would be to make a strip of chainmaille (it doesn't do well with hard three sided corners) and lay it from bottom to top. So of the five sides of the keycap, three would be laid over with chainmaille, leaving the two sides the black I would probably adhere it to. So you think it'd be better to do the three sides, or just a little patch of chainmaille for the top?

Now, doing an entire keycap out of silver would be a considerable challenge. There are 3d art chainmaillers in the world, but I'm not one of them, and even to them this would be tricky. Chainmaille just isn't a historically stiff construct. It's made to give way, to be pushed back and forth. It isn't made to be rigid

What do you think, would you be interested in a keycap that has the top pane of the keycap covered by chainmaille?

If it's just the one pane, it wouldn't even be that much.

Update -  Mostly interested in getting a TKL, but it doesn't need case or caps. If you've got any keyboard. Cherry, ALPS, Modern BS or Topre. I am interested. Full size, compact.

I need a keyboard. Somebody out there can hook me up with a keyboard. Do a brother a favor and treat yourself to some artisan jewelry.

LF Acrylic TKL case that would fit a QFR, I like colors, but I'm not overly picky. Let's hear what you've got.
