I don't think they'll be restocking because shine III is coming out.

I knew there had to be explanation! I did a (very) quick google search on the Shine 3, and I don't see it looking different. I'll be watching this one!

There are a few recent threads around here about the Shine 3, and some nice videos.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Slightly off-topic plug for mechanicalkeyboards.com: (no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way!)
I think it's helpful to note - if you order a Shine 3 from mechanicalkeyboards.com they'll send you two different styles of replacement space bars when they get them in (if you don't like the snake).

I'm sure it's a first come first serve type of thing. Clarification from MK staff would be helpful as it's not clear which of the additional space bars will be included.

I'm hoping to land an Aluminum YOTS sometime this week......crosses fingers. Called the local distributor and asked them for the ETA of the YOTS, they told me very, very soon. I'm stoked! BTW, I'm assured of an Alu YOTS Cherry Blue as I've paid a deposit for it......

Shine 3 has more control over the LED modes: different speed and delay settings. That and the two 5mm LEDs for a true RGB spacebar experience (total gimmick). Might be some other DIP or media key changes as well. Same lasered dyed ABS keycaps.

The Year of the Snake edition sports an aluminum top, not a full case, for an extra $50-60.

Yeah, I don't really see any practical difference vs. Shine II and Shine III--mostly availability and price.  YotS will be different because of the case.
