G81-3000HKNBE: Doubleshot white on black BE-azerty!
« on: Tue, 06 August 2013, 03:27:21 »
Does anyone know what kind of caps are on this? I can't find any information about the HKN part, other than the H possibly standing for doubleshot (which would be truly amazing since this is like the holy grail to find in my language, let alone in white on black). I found one of these (new) on a second hand website, I had to ask for the serial number. It's a bit expensive for an MY keyboard imo, €27,95, but would be worth it if it would actually be doubleshot. I'm not getting my hopes up though ^^

edit: Solution found! And it was good :) check last post for detail shots!

H means doubleshot. I don't know what K means, but N means Norwegian layout. More info here.

It's actually a Belgian layout, the full code is G81-3000HKNBE, where BE is Belgian layout :) I always use that wiki page for reference as well but the G81 codes do not always apply, expect for the first letter "H" hopefully.

Cherry went from using three-letter to five-letter codes before there were Windows keys. So, if there are Windows keys the code should have five letters.

Whatever that layout is, it is very weird, that moved M would seriously confuse me. I think the H does apply to G81, as there are often people who harvest caps from G81s.

Haha weird or not that's the Belgian layout, BE-AZERTY. I'm used to it from when I started typing so it's no problem for me of course :p I can type on a qwerty keyboard without a problem, I just choose not to. So searching for keyboards I can use is pretty difficult! I will take my chances and see if they are indeed doubleshot. If not, I'd still have a nice case and some black keys anyways.

They should be doubleshots indeed. I would strongly recommend that you get it. BE does not come up very often, and I have never seen it in white on black before. Also there has not been a lot of recorded demand for FR/BE to justify the 300+ MOQ to get them made again so I doubt they will be available new again any time soon. The only con to the set is on G81 the bottom row 1.25 won't be useable on MX since they offset the stems for some bizarre reason.
If there is more than 1 available please let me know. I would like to add to my own collection.

Yeah I know a FR/BE set won't ever be made :) Completely understandable too if you don't have enough people for it.
I already contacted the seller, well contacted him again, so let's wait for a response and I will post some pics and details whenever I receive it. When I get a response I will ask if he has more than one set. I doubt it however since he only mentions one in his listing.
I'll probably do a stem mod to make it work for MX, or participate in one of your upcoming GMK GBs. I'm still regretting not getting that CMYK set btw. But I spent too much money on keyboards in that period so I couldn't justify it!

Don't say that, Round 4 on DT had a French/Belgian layout kit.

Well, it had a French layout, not a Belgian one ^^ there are very subtle differences. That's why I ordered blanks in R4 :)
And I don't think he sold that many since he still had a few sets in the leftover list.

I received it today. I just have one thing to say...AWESOME! I never would've dreamt I could find this in the layout that I needed. It's NIB, it's white on black DS and it's BE-AZERTY. Very cool :) I also got a keyboard cover with it for some reason.
Ivan, unfortunately he doesn't have any other keyboards. Otherwise I would've bought a spare for myself as well ^^

Here are some pics. The fine line you see at the top right is a hair, not a scratch ^^

I truly wonder what consumed Cherry so much to make it say, "**** that bottom row..."

It shall forever remain a mystery :) I managed to get my hands on a CMYK set yesterday so I should be covered in that area ^^  I could always do a stem mod as well, but then they still won't be doubleshot of course.
