Mac OS X keyboard prefs not seeing F-keys on FC660C...
« on: Tue, 06 August 2013, 09:10:54 »
I recently wanted to switch from the default OS X behavior where function keys trigger things like brightness control and volume and expose, etc. to having them register as literal function keys. I went into the keyboard prefs pane and found...no reference to function keys.

It should look like this:

http://dailymactips.com/2012/11/28/use-the-f-keys-as-standard-function-keys/

But what I see is this (attached).

30563-0

Also attached is the display of FunctionFlip, which is a 3rd party pref pane that lets you customize the function keys beyond what Apple offers in OS X. FF sees no function keys on this keyboard, either.

30565-1

I realize the Leopold FC660C has "virtual" function keys, but shouldn't they register to the OS? As it is now, I cannot use any software on this Mac (running OS X Mountain Lion) that needs direct function key input.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue? Thanks.

Disable function flip. I believe the whole function layer aspect of it is confusing the entire system, as the laptop has an FN layer, and so does the board. Not sure if that'll work, never used my 660C on a nonworthy system. *cough* I hate apple with a passion *cough*

Yea, I only downloaded and loaded FunctionFlip to see if it saw the function keys, after my initial notice that something was amiss. FF is not the cause here.

I just tried this with my FC660C, OS X Mountain Lion. The option to use Fn keys as standard keys is there. I tested the keyboard with the option checked, and unchecked, and both worked as expected.

Have you tried this with another keyboard?
