A co-worker gave this to me...
« on: Mon, 03 November 2008, 18:04:07 »
He was cleaning out a phone room and found this old dell keyboard.
Don't know if it is a rubber dome or maybe a white alps...

Here's some pictures:

My sister has just moved house and she gave me this keyboard from her old PC. Seeing the switches at first, I too thought they might be an alps copy of some sort. The tactility on this board is great! I have been typing on it for the last hour or so and It is rather addictive. My last domes board was a senseless piece of crap from Tiny, I think; This has restored a little faith in domes for me!

The stems must have something to do with the tactility, but the board seems too clammed up to (Easily) have a good look. Does anyone have any more insight into how these work exactly? I've never delved into the world of domes too thoroughly and am rather unfamiliar with this concept of a separate stem from the key cap.

No need to bash rubber dome keyboards. Like any other keyboard, there are cheap ones and good ones. My rubber dome keyboard has performed excellently for 18 years. It's even older than my Model M which I am using right now.

Yea it looks as though I've jumped to a few too many conclusions in the past with rubber domes! I still have this board plugged in and my Filco is staring at me very angrily.

Which board are you referring to?

I read the title of this thread, and for some reason I was thinking the flu or VD.  It would have been much funnier that way.  Not for pook, of course, if that were the case.

There are good rubber domes out there. It's really just a different category of board. The issue is that this segment is overloaded with garbage and contain's 100% of the cheapo stuff. You don't find too many $5 mechanical keyboards. :0

That's true. I've seen many cheasy rubber-dome keyboards as well. Ever used the keyboard that comes with a new Dell computer? One wasn't working well (it was only 1.5 years old) so I took it apart and it was a disgraceful piece of trash with no metal in it excluding the contacts on the membrane board and the mainboard. This includes the supporting brackets on large keys...wait! What supporting brackets? There weren't any except for a plastic one on the spacebar! No sliders under the keys pushing the robber domes down either...

I like my ugly old keyboards for a GOOD reason.
