Matias Quiet Pro vs Tactile Pro
« on: Sat, 10 August 2013, 09:13:21 »
Hey guys,

I'm considering maybe going for a Matias Quiet Pro or Tactile Pro for this fall, and I wanted your opinion before making my decision.

To be sure, I've done my own research on it, but I'm still undecided on the feel. I love the sounds of both, though I slightly prefer the sound of the Tactile Pro.

Questions:
1. Does the Tactile Pro/Quiet Pro feel like Cherry Blues? or more like Old School Alps White/Black? (Reason I ask is because I do not like Blues)
2. Which one feels more like Cherry Browns?
3. Does the loudness of the Tactile Pro bother you when you're typing and listening to music?

I think that's it for now, but I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Thanks!

1) Tactile Pro switches are clicky and are like Clicky White Alps but not as heavy and smoother.
2) Neither feel like Browns. The Quiets have a lovely tactile bump and cushiony bottom out. To me Browns have a weak and limp tactile bump which is barely noticeable and too light in terms of acutation.
3) I type on Greens and Blues and Whites regularly so I've never been bother by the sounds of typing. That being said, the Tactile Pro isn't as loud as any of the clicky MX switches I own.

The advantage that the quiet pro has it that you can get it in the Bluetooth model. I wish the tactile pro was bluetooth but it isn't. It really is about your preference when it comes to how much noise you want when you type. They are both good keyboards though but i do think they are a bit over priced.

The BT is Mac layout only... But will apparently work on PC and other Standards BT devices.

Yeah I wish they would make a black one for 'pc'

So is it the quite pro that is wireless or only the laptop pro??

I just left a question in the Matias forum asking if they can ship the BT version with PC keycaps (special order + premium kind of thing)
We can use AutoHotkey to revert back the ALT-Win keys.

Personally I find Tactile Pro too loud, though I find MX Blue loud too so maybe I just don't like loud switches.

As for which one feel like MX Brown.  Like CPTBadAss said, neither feel like MX Brown because ALPS are more tactile and have a higher tactile point.

However if you get the Quiet Pro and take out the rubber dampers I believe it will feel pretty close to MX Clear.  Matias switches are pretty easy to open so it wouldn't be too hard to do, just might take you a bit of time.

Also keep in mind for whatever magical reasons, Tactile Pro switches has slightly more resistance than Quiet Pro switches.
