About time ;)  I miss my *magenta* LED Ducky--it was great :(  Someday I'll mod a 60% keyboard to the same color.

Can't believe people are defending Ducky...  It is pink.

It isn't...

People perceive colors differently...but since there are quite a few people seeing purple, you have to wonder who is wrong...

And it's not like other companies' "purple" LEDs on keyboards are purple either.  They look magenta to me as well.  This thread is out of proportion.  If "pink" offends you, I don't see how purple wouldn't.  It's not exactly a masculine color, if that's what it really is about, which I suspect--it is.

My 7yo daughter loves pink and hates purple.  Sometimes it is a fine line between what is pink and what is purple.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I don't think it's a matter of what can technically be designated as "purple", nor is it a matter of a certain color offending someone.  Instead, it's a matter of marketing.  If they market the keyboard using a video with what's been described here as "darker" purple leds, and they sell you a keyboard with leds that resemble a lighter pink color, then people are surely going to feel misled when they buy it.

Point being, while "purple" may not always mean what you want it to mean, it should probably mean the same "purple" you market in your video.

edit: I haven't seen the video myself, so I'm merely operating on the inference that it was a tool used to market a specific keyboard with "purple" leds.

As we've seen here, different lighting, different camera settings, and even different cameras can make colours look different.

To me pink/purple, unless really pink or really purple, is one of those colours that is difficult to photograph.

Also like the Filco yellow keycaps - in some photos they are really vivid orange-yellow, in others they are really washed out pale yellow.  Same keycaps, same camera, different lighting.

Holy crap guys.
EVERYONE seems to be missing the point. What doesn't matter is what you want to call the color listed. Pink, purple or magenta. What matters is that the OP KNEW that Ducky's purple was this color previously, and had witnessed a promotional video in which they debuted a NEW PURPLE, one that was dark and sexy. He ordered this keyboard convinced he was ordering THAT color, and what he received WAS NOT THAT COLOR. Whether you want to call this "a purple" doesn't matter, because it wasn't the color advertised. You can argue they're still in the same color family, but if you saw a video for a nice, sexy green LED keyboard, that was bright, and sharp, and lime green. IT came, and you plugged it in all excited and it was a sickly puke green, with hints of olive drab.

YOUD BE ****ING UPSET

It's still green, so the description fits, but that's not the point, the point is that they showed your something that you didn't get. All the OP is doing, is warning people that IF they saw the video, don't expect that keyboard. Period. Can we stop arguing semantics?

Can we get a link to the promotional video in question? I'd like to see the discrepancy between what you saw, and what you received.

Those might actually be blue LEDs that you thought were examples of purple.  Their blue has some purple shade to it, which is a known fact based on reviews and photos from owners of Shine II models with blue LEDs.  It's not uncommon to see their Blue LED Shines look UV-purple on photos.  Same with white LEDs that photograph quite blue.  They never said "this is a purple LED keyboard you are looking at, so there's nothing misleading.  LEDs are a pain to correctly portray, and either the cameras don't pick up the color accurately (most often the case) or those are actually their blue-UV LEDs that ended up looking properly purple.  I'm betting the "purple" LED one would look white / pink, as that's how my camera always picked it up.  I had to do post-processing to get it to look like it does in person.  My Shine II with White LEDs always comes out looking blue in photos, no matter what white balance setting I choose.

P.S.: Random examples of blue LEDs having a purple shade to various degree
(look how properly purple it looks!  but those are "blue" LEDs)

Lighting, camera, variations in LED batch colour.

Okay, but everything I have said regarding how LEDs are often not accurately portrayed on film are the relevant parts of my post, which you quoted.

Zero Shine use a different shade of blue LEDs.

Edit: PS Canons has a really tough time picking up the correct shade of blue. Nikon has no problem.

Yes, the Zero Shine blue is much paler.

That actually looks like a cool purple color to me. Thinking about buying a extra Shine 3 but purple in addition to my orange one.
