Name this Mitsumi switch
« on: Thu, 15 August 2013, 23:32:26 »
Here are the mitsumi switches which are maybe 0.1mm too big on one cross side to fit cherry mx keys.
Is there an official name for these?

It's only been an hour, not everyone stays on or checks this subforum. Also because there probably isn't an "official" name to the switch. Just call it a Mitsumi switch.

The deskthority wiki has some Mitsumi switches, but not this one. Just call them Mitsumi switch (maybe also describe them by their feel, i.e. linear, stiff, tactile, etc.).

Hence the reason I posted, if it was EZ to identify, I wouldn't have had to ask.

After reading some fun chinese boards looks like they are calling it mitsumi ALPS. It appears to be like their t-switch in length and width, but has an X top instead of a T.

thanks again Topre

Those are not the Mitsumi Alps. They are far from being Alps compatible. It's just another Mitsumi switch.

Did you even read what I posted???

I did not say they were alps smk compatible, I said it appears to be similar to the alps T switch

http://www7.ocn.ne.jp/~hisao/image/plus.htm

They were the ones who called it an alps clone

You did say "looks like they are calling it mitsumi ALPS." My Japanese isn't very good, but they are just saying it's similar to the ALPS switch. The reason why I would say there is no official name is because Deskthority has another picture for "Mitsumi ALPS".

Sounds good, I'll get some pictures of them disassembled and call them Mitsumi T switches since there isn't any other information about them.

Thanks for your help everyone!  :thumb:

You seriously think that was a trolling attempt? Or do you think you're somehow funny? Right, don't really care...

It's hard to say what exactly that switch is compatible with or looks similar to with those amazing photos you took. Yes it seems similar to that switch but there's quite a few vintage switches with a similar mounting concept. What I know as a Mitsumi Alps are these.

I don't know why you act so aggressive? Did I do anything to you?

Also, I don't see why you call me narrow minded:
Yes it seems similar to that switch but there's quite a few vintage switches with a similar mounting concept.

I actually agreed that it looks similar. I don't see the "narrow minded" part.

Seriously, I just wanted to help. If I offended you somewhere (and I don't know where) I'm sorry about that.

Very few switches have publicly known product descriptions, as so few people have copies of the manufacturers' catalogues (and even then, there's no guarantee of a concise family name). You're extremely lucky to even get the part number — most switch names listed at Deskthority are ones we made up ourselves, with no clue what the part numbers were.

I am not aware of any community-assigned names for those Mitsumi switches.

By the way, there is no such thing as "Alps SMK". Alps Electric ("Alps", not "ALPS") and Showa Musen Kogyo (SMK) are completely different companies. SMK did make switches that were compatible with keycaps from other brands, specifically Alps and Cherry, but the internals are quite different and the switches are not interchangeable. (SMK is also not the "SMK" on Strong Man keyboards.)

I name this switch Matthew!

Breaks bottle of champagne on the plate.

May fortune follow all who type on her.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
