Model M from 2003 with 5-pin XT/AT connector?!?!
« on: Wed, 19 November 2008, 21:46:27 »
I dropped by a nearby thrift store tonight, and happened upon several decent keyboards on the shelf -- a couple Fujitsu FKB4700s, some old Sun 5 keyboards (perhaps not great, but haven't seen these before), a rebranded Model M, and even an Apple Extended II in what appeared to be very good shape.  $3 each.  I grabbed the Model M. :)

This is an unusual keyboard.  The brand logo reads ADAC, and the sticker on the back states that it was made by Unicomp during August, 2003.  Has Windows keys and 2-piece keycaps, but the oddest bit is that it has the old 5-pin XT/AT plug.  Model # is UNB0P45.

Anyone else seen an old-style 5-pin DIN connector on keyboards made so recently?

This is Unicomp we're talking about, and Unicomp does specialize in producing stuff for old computers. And, ATX didn't really fully replace AT until the late 1990's - and you had an AT keyboard connector if you had an AT mobo.

Looks like this keyboard was originally sold for use with a video endoscopy unit (medical equipment).  Perhaps an older unit, as you've suggested.

Should be completely usable with an AT<>PS/2 adapter (and even inline with a PS/2<>USB adapter, if needed)

Oh, I've already verified that. :)  Both adapters work as expected.
