I've been wanting to get back into MTG, but I don't want to start investing the money that I used to into the game.

I've been told it looks like a dumbed down version of magic. But I've never played either.

I know a lot of people I know on campus play magic (I think something called EDH?) but it seems like a game that would require a lot of investment to even get a decent deck.

Trying not to get interested in Hearthstone because the last thing I need right now is to get addicted to a Blizzard game, but I've been watching Northerlion's LP and it is indeed sinking it's claws into me. There are so many CCG/TCG-style games coming out right now, guess I'll see how they all shake out.

Got an invite to closed beta in early September. My OH's been playing it (used to be a Magic player long ago) and says that the nice part about Hearthsone is how easy it is to get games (<1 min wait times).

I got my key 2 weeks after the beta went live. Been playing off and on since then. It does get kinda boring the more you play so I hope they regularly add more cards to keep it interesting.

Know a couple of buddies that have been playing the beta, compared to MTG it seems be a lower variance / more simplified game (not necessarily a bad thing)

honestly i didn't even expect to like this game, I didn't really like virtual card games and i wasn't really into the whole world of warcraft theme--i quit wow all the way back in 2008. My wife gave me her key because she said she wouldn't play it and i gave it a try and now i am hooked, ill be so sad when everything is wiped. Its really good stuff.

Not sure. Still reading through the updates. Open beta will be here real soon, so I am guessing only a couple more months.
