Keyboard Condoms
« on: Mon, 02 September 2013, 11:28:05 »
So a thread was made about this a couple years ago, but it didn't quite answer the question I had.

If I were to get one of those rubbery covers that you put over your keyboard to protect from dust/spills/etc, does it significantly affect the typing experience in a negative way?

I've used them. It changes the experience drastically.

It's probably worth it if you work in the food service industry.

They look nasty when they start turning yellow, too.

I was forced to use one at school for a long time until I brought my own keyboards in.

Do not like.

The answer is simple, does non-keyboard condom effect the experience in a negative way?

Only one way to find out.  :thumb:

..... yes it makes a difference lol so I conclude that keyboard condom would also feel different.

So when you guys say it's different, is that a "hrmm, well that feels different" or is it a "man, this really sucks.  Why did I do this again?"

I have one of these covers that came with my Leopold FC700R. I've tried typing on it and it kind of muffles or dampens the typing experience. It's not that great and I prefer typing with the cover off.

The simple answer is YES - It does affect the typing in a negative way.

The taller the key travel is the worst.

On scissor switches and other laptop alike switches is not too bad.
On bucklingspring, it's plain horrible.

The ample amount of off-color innuendos have made me realize that no, a keyboard cover is not a good investment unless your keyboard has many 'partners' with which it types.

My keyboard and I happen to be seeing each other exclusively, so I believe that it will not be necessary :-).
