Do they feel different; which do you prefer and why?

Depends on the board.

HHKB: The unsilenced topre switch is smooth, but the silenced topre switch is scratchy.
Realforce: The unsilenced and silenced switch feel exactly the same.

I prefer silenced because it's the way topre should be experienced (all thock and no tick on the return).

I prefer nonsilenced only because both models have spacebars that are noisy - but it is much more apparent on the silent version which drives me crazy

Personally haven't used a silenced board, but I don't like my keyboards to be too silent. Gotta make some noise, it's so satisfying

I don't mind the keyboard making a little noise but for me I like the space bar to sound close to rest of the board.

Gonna be quite difficult as long as the spacebar is 6-7 times the size of a standard key.

I have a Leopold FC660C, which comes standard with non-silenced 45-gram Topre switches. It is already more silent than any of my other boards with Cherry mx switches or IBM buckling springs. Moreover, the spacebar is quieter than it is on any other keyboard I have, and the sound of the spacebar is closer to the sound of other keys on the keyboard than is the case on any other keyboard I have. As far as I am concerned, I doubt it would be worth the extra cost for a silent version, which is available for Realforce and HHKB Pro 2 keyboards, but not currently for the Leopold FC660C.

Silenced Topre is definitely better, for the reasons stated above.  The only question one need ask is:  Is it worth the extra money for the silent Topres?  For every person the answer comes down to personal preference.  For me, the difference in price is worth it for the silent switches.

Also, to me the HHKB silent switches feel the same as RealForce silent switches.  I have noticed no "scratchiness" with mine.  This is not to deny that such scratchiness exists, only that I have not experienced it.

There is a big difference between HHKB silent and RealForce silent switches, and that is the mounting method.  The RealForce has a metal plate.  The HHKB does not.  Both have a nice "thock", but the RealForce has a nicer and deeper "thock".

Disagree. When I had my HHKB right next to my 87UB the HHKB was much deeper and more resonant than the 87UB, precisely due to the fact that it did not have a plate

Most people feel the HHKB has more thock to it...the plate actually prevents the sound....that is my experience as well..side by side..granted, I don't have both a Type S and Silent RF...

To me the HHKB is more of a thock and RF is more of a thud...maybe that is what you're referring to...
