X-Keys anyone?
« on: Sat, 14 September 2013, 08:44:01 »
Anybody else using X-Keys auxiliary keyboards? I love the idea but admit I have trouble finding good uses for them.

Here's one, a mapping for the 84 key version for LOTRO. Pretty nice, allows me to do emotes easily. The problem is remembering where everything is.

I have another one I'll post for more general use. I use ControllerMate on OS X to control it.

They have Cherry Browns too :)

There's a newer line with some other type of key, don't know which and don't care. It supports lights, I think you can light up each individual key.

Pretty cool man, I assume its much easier to play using that layout? If you memorize it, that is.

It helps for Role Playing. I can quickly do an appropriate Emote (hit one key instead of typing "/tantrum"). The most useful though is the row of Pet commands. I play a "Lore Master" who has familiars, and it's quite complex to manage your own character in addition to the Pet. This way I can quickly tell him to Attack, Guard, etc. They all are tied to commands (i.e. "/pet attack"), so it's much faster to just hit the key.

And did I mention they are Cherry Browns?  :D The keycaps are relegendable, but you could substitute regular caps if you like.

They looked nice, but expensive. PI engineering is that way I guess.
Anyway, I would recommend the relegendable keycaps, either from a cherry kb or I think pi engineering (x keys) sells them.

I have the both the XK-24 Keys (newer version) and XK-60 (older version).
I use the XK-24 quite frequently. It has saved me from so much repetitive tasks. I would recommend using it for keyboard combo which is where you really get the most use out of it.

For ex. a simple key would be copy on press down and paste on paste up.

I have the X-keys 80. And i am using it to program shortcuts for Lighting Offline Editor programs. I have a Mac Book Pro and I am having a problem getting the controller mate software recognizing a press of the fn key. I need to get the Xkeys 80 to recognize the press of fn then down arrow for one function and xkeys 70 the fn then up arrow for another. Do you have any ideas of how to solve this problem because controller mate basically left me hanging. going to try and put the .mate that i have programmed. I am probably going to post a main topic to see if anyone has a fix as well.

thanks
