LF cheap, always>2000dpi PS/2 mouse
« on: Fri, 20 September 2013, 11:27:06 »
Is anyone aware of a mouse that meets the following criteria?
  • At least 2000dpi
  • Uses this DPI when plugged in, without having to press a DPI select button
  • supports PS/2
  • wired
  • reasonably cheap (ideally <$10, since I need several)
Many exist that fail (2).

An alternative to (2) and (3) would be a device where the sensor is a separate documented chip that speaks SPI or I²C or similar.

Why 2000 may I ask? I think the Death Adder defaults to 1800 (not sure about the 2013 model though).

Whoops, didn't see the <$10 requirement. That rules out the Abyssus as well.

Btw, "relatively cheap" would probably mean ~$30 to most people around here. <$10USD would be "bargain bin", or "dirt cheap".

Yeah, finding a 2k dpi mouse at that money is pretty much impossible, although you could look at the Asian market, they've got loads of cheap mice with all sorts of sensors, you might get lucky there.

Why 2000 may I ask?

I want to use them for position feedback on a homebrew CNC device (to build keyboards with, of course  :D), and the native increment is 200 × 10 tpi.

Yes, there are some approaching $10 (plenty at $20), but none of them advertise PS/2 support, though the controller may in fact support it. I was hoping someone would know of some particular models that do, or have a documented sensor separate from the host interface.

I think I've found some 1000dpi ones to use for now.
