KBT Race or KBT Pure?
« on: Mon, 23 September 2013, 23:55:56 »
I've been putting some thought lately into getting myself a new keyboard for a christmas present for myself (obviously, still a few months away, but still). I've decided I want something really small, but I don't want to sacrifice so many keys that I'll really miss them. I do a lot of gaming, but I also would use the keyboard for typing. I'm thinking about getting browns since there are some people in the household that are annoyed with the blues on my BWU. My main concerns between the Race and the Pure (probably the two I'm looking at the most atm) are this: How much would I miss the arrow keys on the pure, and how much would the small shift key on the race impact my typing? Anyone able to speak from experience? I would also occasionally take the board to school with me if we're going to have a long class of typing (for whatever reason). Also, on a slightly unrelated note, how much of a difference do o-rings make on sound for blues, especially as someone that bottoms out consistently while gaming?

I own a Pure and love it, but there are some games that are not good with it (anything that uses Function keys --- ex: SC2).
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

I'd go with the KBT Race to be honest, I think it's always needed to have the arrow keys, I cannot live without them.

Have you considered the KBT Pure Pro? It has arrow keys.

My vote is for the Pure. You can easily access the arrows if you need it.

Also check out my review on o-rings which has videos of the sound reduction of o-rings with Blues.

I love the feel of bottoming out, but I need it to be quieter. Which would you suggest? Does the squish from the red o-rings really change the feel?

Orings changed the feel for me on my BWU because of the shorter travel distance.
I heard some people using these http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,slpads
These lowered the sound but does not change travel distance as much. No personal experiences though.

Do you think it would be logical for the firm ones to still have the kind of "hard" landing I get from bottoming out, but still be quieter, since it's a soft material?

The squish threw me off and the hard was jarring since it made the switch short throw. I didn't care for either.

I would suggest mechanicalkeyboards.com but they seem to be out of stock. (Browns)

KBT site has the limited white version. (Browns)

The KBT site has the price as 139 euros, and I am in USA. After converting to dollars, that would be too expensive. Are there any other people that would possibly have them?

For me, I'd either go Pure Pro, or Race. The Pure and Poker really don't interest me at all.
