It might be hard to find a full size topre in 55g.

I prefer 55g because I just prefer firmer/heavier switches.

Never owned a Topre, but I think the answer to this question is pretty self explanatory...

If you prefer a heavier switch, got for the 55g. If you like lighter switches, got for the 45g.

If I were to ever consider buying a Topre, it'd be a 55g. And preferably TKL...

All personal preferences right;  I tried both and I prefer 45.

Actually I first bought the all 45grf version as i thought it would be close to MX red, which was my favorite after testing basically all available switches.

However for gaming i felt it is sometimes too easy to accidently press a key -  so in the end i bought an all 55gr Topre - and I love it.

So i moved the all 45grf to the office and use the all 55grf at home. typing haven :).

Yeah like people said it's all preference.

I used Cherry MX Red/Brown before I bought my Topre 45g and it feels just right.  55g feels too heavy for me.

Though for people who came from MX Black/Buckling Spring I'd assume 55g would be better.

Go for the 55g realforce and give your fingers a good, full two weeks to adjust.  45g plate mounted topre feels mushy.  55g plate mounted is poppy.  45g case mounted (i.e. HHKB) is even poppier than 55g plate mounted.

It is highly personal and variable.

Some have sworn the non-AE 55g and AE 55g's feel completely different.  I've tried both that felt identical and neither is what I would consider "heavy."  Maybe heavy for someone who has been using MX Red's/Browns for a few years but in no way unusually heavy.

Of the Topre family that I have sampled the 55g is my favorite.  The only way to make it better is a Silent Fullsize version.

What about 55g case mounted?

You'd have to do some modding.  Idk, ask brocaps or someone else who's done that mod.

I have a variable weight which goes from 45g on the main keys to 30g on the pinky keys.  I definitely experienced the unintentional keypress on my WASD hand.  Ultimately, though, 55g is not THAT much different than the 45g uniform.  I will probably go for the 55g next time because I like to smash the keys.

For me, 45g > 55g > variable.

I like the 45g better not because the 55g is too heavy, but because I feel like the 55g loses the smoothness that differentiates Topre switches from standard rubber domes.  45g is smooth as butter.  I owned a variable RF for a long time as well, but after trying a 45g it felt mushy to me.

YMMV of course.

I received my 45g RealForce a week ago.  I must say that I'm enjoying immensely.  Coming from Cherry Blues and Clears, it certainly feels different.  It has nice, smooth & light actuation.  I was tempted to get the 55g, but I felt like I needed something lighter.  The keypress feel has changed over the past few days.  The keys felt a little stiff at first, but I can feel them loosening up.  Of course, that could all be in my mind and it's just my fingers getting used to it!

Never used a 55g, but I'm pretty happy with the 45g, and don't feel the need for a heavier switch.

How "heavy" are the 55gs?  I'm actually in the same boat as the OP, can't decide on which one to get.  I've seen some posts people comparing them directly to MX Blacks, while others say they are nowhere near as heavy as Blacks.  If I find Blacks a tad bit too heavy for MMO/RTS gaming, but hate the actuation on the blues and browns (they have never felt smooth to me...) should I get the 45 or 55g.  Also, how different is the typing experience on the Type Heaven ABS vs. the RF PBTs.

I feel like I just need to get both to test.  Been dwelling on this all of yesterday.

55g (to me): in between a MX Blue and MX Clear.  Hard to compare to the MX Black but I'd say they are lighter than those.

Then again ... there are reports of some 55g Topre boards feeling heavier than others - maybe different materials were used in certain batches I don't know.

The most important thing is think long term.  If you are going to be using a board for 8+ hours a day are you going to develop fatigue?  Perhaps that's not a bad thing.  Some people prefer typing on 55g's in the morning when they are fresh and 45g's in the afternoon.
