[Closed] Need a beta tester!
« on: Wed, 16 October 2013, 10:03:24 »
EDIT - Found someone, offer is closed.

I've been making leather wrist rests over here and just finished up with an ErgoDox prototype.  The problem is, I don't actually have an ErgoDox to test it with.

So, I'm looking for someone with an original (not full-hand) ErgoDox with litster case to try out this prototype for me.  I need to know how well it fits below the case, how the height is (with and without feet, which I will send as well), whether the size on each side is good, and so on.  I'd also like you to send me some clear pictures of this.  After that, the wrist rests are yours.

It's dark red with a skull design, so you would have to be okay with that.  Also, it's got a couple of imperfections since it's the first one.  The main thing is that the left-hand is a bit warped on one corner, but it's flexible enough that it can be bent to lay flat so I am hoping it'll relax into that shape.  It's also lighter than the final version would be.

I'd like to keep this to Canada and CONUS, so I can get feedback as quickly as possible.  I am asking for $15 to cover shipping, but no charge otherwise.

If this sounds good to anyone, let me know!

To everyone who is interested in TKL/60%--don't worry!  I am planning to open up a shop and start selling a variety of sizes, colours, etc. as well as take custom orders.
I'll also be shipping internationally--Canadians know the non-CONUS pain as well ;)

I'm just a perfectionist and want to make sure everything is right before hand.

the first thing i think when i see these is that they don't look thick enough, the ergodox is very thick and raised up due to the mounting bolts, more thick than a normal keyboard is. the ergodox is also not inclined like a normal keyboard so the wrist rest is required to be higher than the normal keyboard or you cant comfortably reach the top keys. i tried pads in the past a similar thickness to what yours look to be and found it wasn't thick enough.

edit. i mean that is just what im thinking when i first see these, i could be absolutely wrong as you dont actually list the thickness.

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of feedback I am looking for.  The thickness is the same as I have designed for a normal keyboard, which is about 16mm without feet and 19 mm with feet.
Height is mostly what I am worried about since I got the dimensions from the litster file but had no idea what the thickness would add up to.

Although I use gel wrist rests exclusively, that is an amazing and beautiful item. Impressive work!

As a Model M/F user, I like tall rests and 2 cm is not excessive at all. If I were using a modern plastic keyboard, half that might be enough. Possibly even less for a thin laptop.
From the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 :

The   Congress   shall have Power
To declare War,  grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
To provide for calling forth the Militia  to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

well height is about the same as a normal keyboard but its really like that there is no incline so the back is the same height as the front, you you rest your wrists differently, you really resting part of your palm as well. i have found just a little more height than the normal gel pads is more comfortable, this may work fine because i imagine its not super squishy like the gel pads i have tried to use when i first got the ergodox.

I already got my crazy wooden rest, hopefully someone catches this and test your creation out./
