Nothing wrong with Powercolor.  Their PCS+ cards are usually pretty killer cards.

Their reference design stuff is nothing special, but their PCS+ stuff is good.  It's kind of like HIS vs HIS IceQ.

I would say hold it off a lil bit while, the 7970's are going to hit bottom rock price between $170 - $200, it always happens like this with all high end AMD single cards a month or two after release of the new cards. I'm waiting for that to happen so I can buy 2x 7970's and replace the 2x 6870's, although the damn x6870's are still hitting high FPS, remember BF3 on ultra while in beta going 50-80 FPS, even though I was using AMD 1090T at that time. The AM3 mobo burned, got new mobo, I5-3570, 16 gb ram but kept the 6870's.... now I need 2x 7970's to let the PC lives for another 3-4 years.

I find that hard to believe considering the R9 280x is basically a 7970 and  will be(or might be already?) priced at $300. Chances are the price will continue to drop slowly(like another $10 on average) for a month or two and we will see a couple major sales(~$250), then they will just go out of stock everywhere.

I can definitely see them hitting that price tier in another 6-8 months, although the stock will surely be very low at this point, once AMD cuts the prices on this series to compete with nvidia's next series, but that is quite a long wait to save $50.

New AMD cards will hopefully be announced on the 24th or the 29th
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

@ Artichoke

The 7970 XFX with rebate goes for $249, of course you don't get rebate for the second one that would be $279. The R9 280X is 7970 rehash but since its new card AMD made sure to stretch the Chip legs lil further via software. You can see most of the time in benchmarks the 280x pulling 1-2 fps ahead of the 7970.

The 7970 will for sure drop to $200 no doubt, new year is coming most likely it will, and to be honest the XFX double fan with the metal shroud just look so good, want 2 of them to keep this set up alive for another 3-4 years, almost sure with 2 of these cards I will go up to 4 years.

@Tym

You speaking of the R9 290 and 290x correct? they have been announced but don't see them on newegg, only 280's available at the moment.

Nah, the 280x is a rebadged 7970  (think 8800 to gts250).

Not just those 2 there should be a whole series from $80 -> alot more

But its currently a smokes and mirrors job, AMD were going to release on the 15th but then they delayed for some reason. Although the date was only rumoured,  now it is believed that AMD is waiting for Nvidia's pricedrop which should be in thr next weekish.

I may have made an mistake,  as I have just woken up but its like that.

lol, to everyone saying "wait for next gen" I dare you. nay TRIPLE DARE YOU. to find something that fits in 3 slots, costs $500, and is more powerful than this, current or next gen.

too bad it's sold out and discontinued.

Why does the number of slots it takes up mean anything? I mean, i get your point, but size isn't everything.
