Keyboard Hipster Appreciation Thread
« on: Tue, 29 October 2013, 21:22:24 »
Hey guys.  This is related to my recent discovery about the market for 1st generation iPods.  Apparently, people actually buy these things, mostly likely hipsters trying to look retro.

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=50228.0

After talking with a friend about this hipster phenomenon, it hit me:

WE ARE A BUNCH OF KEYBOARD HIPSTERS.

Clicking away on 25-year-old Alps and Buckling springs.  Scoffing at domers and Cherry users.  Paying ridiculous amounts of dough for rare, old boards.  Throwing around insider lingo that only the true fans can understand.

I am a keyboard hipster.
Tough pill to swallow.

I know that I am not the first to realize this.  CPTBadass has been leading the charge for Alps hipsters for some time now.

It's time we honor the most retro and alternative among us, the keyboard hipsters.

Too hip to use instagram. In fact, I'm probably going to shut down my Facebook and re make my Myspace.

As much as I want to argue against it, the entire hobby is hipster as fuark. How many times have we seen debates between Cherry MX vs Topre vs ALPS vs BS? Only hipsters would argue about **** like that. Plus, we all know Topre is the best.  :))

First I am called a "Topre Fanboy", and now I am called a "Keyboard Hipster" ... WTF!

Why do I have to be offended when I come here!?

It's all in good fun  :)  We're all pretty much in the same boat in varying degrees.

You know how I know you're a keyboard hipster? You call your keyboard your "daily driver".  :))

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. I'm wondering if we need to clarify the definition between keyboard hipster and fanboy.

A fanboy gawks at the latest product from his fave company and buys it without a second thought (iPhone fanboys, for example).  They may collect some older items to validate their fandom, but do not cherish these items as the finest creations of man.

A hipster has no time for the latest and greatest, reveling in the tried-and-true, and in some cases, paying more for the vintage product than it's original inflation-adjusted price.

Does hipster mean sissy?

Here is what I am typing on today.

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Hipster does not mean sissy.

Hipster is not a euphemism for gay.

You do not have to worry that anybody doubts your heterosexuality because you like keyboards.

[However, FYI, that Hanns G monitor screams "gay".  It jumps out at you like a Republican cruising for sex in a public bathroom.]

Too hip to use instagram. In fact, I'm probably going to shut down my Facebook and re make my Myspace.

I never left myspace and I'm sad that they got rid of the old div layouts for the stupid new layouts. Lost all my original friends and layout! MySpace sucks now ..
