Keyboard and mouse locations

Any of you folks have the mouse and keyboard on different levels on your desk?  The reason I am asking is I am trying it out on my desk.  I have a full sized Das (costar built), Razer Orbweaver (modded), and a Razer Naga.  The tray under the desk is barely wide enough to really game on.  So out of coursity I moved the keyboard up to the top of my desk and left the pair of Razer products on the keyboard tray.  I have to say after a couple weeks I am actually liking the layout.

With being able to move my hands closer together during gaming it is tons more comftorable.  Plus, when I am typing(more than omw at least) it forces me to sit up right instead of slouching in my chair because the keyboard is so much farther away from my mouse/gamepad. 

Just wondering if anyone else has tried it.

I used to have mine setup opposite that way since I type more so wanted my keyboard at the right level.  I had no room so put my mouse up above.  Got weird wrist pains and it was pain moving back and forth all the time.  I made a wider tray so even with a full size board I can fit both together!  With my TKL boards I have a ton of room now.

If you can do it and its comfy, no need to change.

I didn't feel I needed to but when I was in heavy raid boss fights in WoW my Orbweaver would slowly migrate toward my Das and the spacebar would actuate and not let up until I moved my Orbweaver.  This actually killed me a couple times and wiped the group once.  Plus it opened up TONS of room for mouse movements.

I don't have  a tray, all my devices are just sitting around on my desk, but I used to move my keyboard out of the way when gaming as I have an Orbweaver as well, but ever since I started using a higher dpi that hasn't really been necessary. Although now I use an edox, so I just stack one half on top of the other if I need more room.

I keep the keyboard lower (to maintain angle > 90° @ elbows), at school even on my lap. On the other hand, I prefer to rest my hand on the desk/tray while using pointing devices, thus it has to be higher.

I do not game, and have a huge keyboard, but I use mice on both sides. Very handy.

Good thing I have a large desk.

I guess for gaming it would work, but when you do most other things you (right) hand needs to move between the mouse and keyboard, and I find that the closer together they are the easier that is.

I have transitioned to TKL (except my Model M - can't find a reasonably priced SSK) so the mouse is closer, that suffices for me.

My tray has a little shelf for the mouse that slides out. It's about  2 inches lower than the keyboard tray. having the mouse down low does feel a lot more ergonomic than when I put it my desktop.

I try to keep my IBM M about a foot away from my hands.  This way, my elbows are actually resting on the desk and I can keep papers that I'm working on right in front of me.  I keep the trackball to the right, but try to pull it in closer than the keyboard to keep my shoulder and neck from straining.

I have them on the same level (same table top). Makes it slightly easier to move my right hand to the keyboard.
