The Far West: The Great Plains and the Mountain West were built by industry, made necessary by harsh, sometimes inhospitable climates. Far Westerners are intensely libertarian and deeply distrustful of big institutions, whether they are railroads and monopolies or the federal government.

Sounds about right

It would be cool if there was a version of the map that I could read without putting my face five inches from the screen.

Awesome!

I love it.
From the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 :

The   Congress   shall have Power
To declare War,  grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
To provide for calling forth the Militia  to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

I like to divide up the USA into my own personal fiefdoms every now and then.  This map clashes with my visions, and really limits the geography of some places.  I respectfully disagree with their interpretation.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

Colin Woodard was at my school last year for a day and did his whole speech on this...pretty cool stuff imo  :p

It was a pretty small talk in my library but was pretty awesome at the same time
