I had my suspicions.. he couldn't even put his real name and email on his PayPal.

I'm going dispute it.  Good thing I asked for an invoice.

EDIT: Also an unverified account. Probably made this account just for receiving money for this GB.

I'll dispute it later, it's only been 15 days for me..

Perhaps Shadovved can shed some light on the situation? From the OP it seems as if he was going to source the parts?

Eh, I offered to help him ship all the non CONUS orders since SG shipping was cheap for lighter items and I was shipping stuff from China to SG anyways (my aunt lives in China), and he didnt have to bring as much back to US.

That's all that happened between us, the final replies given to me were non-committal and vague with regard to end-dates, hence I told him to contact me whenever he was ready to take me up on the offer, and it sorta faded away since end-Nov and I assumed that the buy was just not completed yet but I did not expect it to turn into this..........

Hmm, the absence of the OP for the last weeks was very fishy to begin with, but I wasn't even invoiced, so I didn't lose anything.

Hope all you guys get your money back!

Maybe someone else can do a similar GB in the future. I am still very interested in these color changers!

I don't care about a group-buy price, I just want to get these things (I bought a board with white LEDs and they are darn bright).

Is there some way to just buy these online, even if there is like some stupid $30 shipping fee or something?

If you can find them on taobao, they're about $0.75 for a set of 10, then just find a proxy that you can buy and ship to you.
Would only come out a few bucks more.

You can also buy them from Qtan, which is quite a bit more: http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/item/keyboard-accessory/led-cover-for-modification/lid=37668704

Edit: Taobao link: http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a220o.1000855.w5003-3776728825.1.tImroG&id=27544684728&&&scene=taobao_shop (from OP).
Didnt add it since every time i've tried to click on it since the GB the page never loads but it loaded fine on mobile so it's just me. Flushed DNS and seems to be ok.

I'm waiting until 1/31 to raise my pitchforks.

PS: You have 45 days from the paid date to file a claim with paypal.

Thanks asdfghjklkjasdf, I'd found the taobao page previously, but prefer to buy things in US$ from a place that can deal with the shipping themselves. It is 18 cents per key instead of 5, but I'll actually get them in a reasonable time.

Decided to dispute through paypal as he hasn't responded or been around for nearly a month and it takes at least 20 days to dispute it if he doesn't message back (which I guess he wont).
First group buy as well, kinda disappointed.

I have also filed a dispute as well. I was really looking forward to this Group Buy and didn't buy it from Qtan since these prices are enormously cheaper. Quite a shame since I would have loved to use these during my winter break before college started again :/

I SWEAR I'M NOT TAKING PART IN ANYMORE GROUP BUYS IN GEEKHACK ANYMORE. even if clacks sell at $1 each.

although reasonably "group buys" may take a long time, but it seems that most GBs here have a really bad user experience and history with reliability. seriously, even Kickstarter projects do better.

I'm really not sure "Most" is the correct term, only a small amount end up like this.

^^ Obviously even well established members can run into issues, the OP in question here had only been here one month when this started. I've seen new people run successful buys but its something to think about before you join. It would be wise for everyone to think about who you send your money to and how you send it.

Unfortunately not. Paypal won't cover you with buyer's protection if there's no invoice + tracking.

I paid this low life $20 and added a $3 tip.

Warning to everyone else whos disputing: if you get contacted by him making excuses why he wasn't able to contact you and to cancel the dispute because he's sending it out, DO NOT CANCEL THE DISPUTE! This is a ploy these wretches use to get you to cancel the dispite because once you cancel it, you won't be able to open it up again and you're completely out of money.

This. First group buy and I used an invoice because I knew paypal would cover me, Guess i'll be using it all the time unless it's a really well known user with at least one successful previous group buy.

You get the money back guaranteed.

I think PayPal can contact the bank/card even if it's no longer available and get the funds taken out of his account.  Although I think they might just take a hit depending on the size of the incident.

I googled that some time ago. His paypal balance will go negative and (depending on the country) they send debt collectors.

Well, I just bought a bunch of these at engtaobao.com.  They come 10 per box ($0.75 each) and I bought 11 boxes each of 7 different colors  ($0.75 * 11 = $8.25 per color * 7 colors = $57.75 total + $3.33 fee + 3.5% Visa card fee = $63.22 grand total so far) (did not buy WHITE (8th) color).  I'll still have to pay for shipping from China to US and I'll let folks know how it turns out.  Had to do it.  My Ducky Shine III is crying out for these.   :p

Here is the URL for the color changers:

http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a220o.1000855.w5003-3776728825.1.tImroG&id=27544684728&&&scene=taobao_shop

Here is the link to the engtaobao.com site:

http://www.engtaobao.com/

Just go to engtaobao.com, create an account, paste the item url in, select the various colors (you'll need to translate, I used Google Translator), and away you go.  Pay attention to quantity!!!  The page defaults to 1 - 10 piece package.  I changed the quantity to 11.  Each unit of colored pieces comes as 10 pieces per unit as far as I can tell so I ordered 11 units = 10 * 11 = 110 individual pieces of each color.  Make sense?  We'll see what I get in the mail.  :)

I can't really recommend this yet.  I'm "testing" the process.  I've done this before with other agents with good results but I'm new to this particular agent.  Also, I expect several weeks to go by before I have results.

Also to the poster above me, I think MassDrop is mistaking those two selections as different when they're in reality the same. The ones from Taobao are Daydream color shades. Thanks for the post though, I'm definitely going to order them if they can get a deal through.
