[WTS] Hakko 808 Desoldering Gun
« on: Sat, 23 November 2013, 15:36:12 »
SOLD

Selling a Hakko 808 Desoldering Gun.  I bought it used from another user here on geekhack a few months ago.  It was used by them to desolder around 200 switches, and used by myself to desolder about 15 LED pads on a Poker II.  I did not need to change the filter or anything like that during my use, so I have not done it yet.  There are still a few filters and whatnot left in the container, so it still has quite a bit of life left before more of those would need to be purchased.
This thing is amazingly simple to use, and makes quick work of desoldering jobs.

Asking Price: $140 shipped, exactly what I paid.  They retail for $180, for reference.

Here's a quick picture of it.  I'd be happy to post more pictures upon request, showing whatever you'd like.

Oh man, if only I had that kind of cash.  I do love my Soldapullt, but this would be perfect.  Good luck!

Is this really easy to use? How fast can you work with it?

Once I got used to it, it's about 3 seconds per joint to desolder.  You just hold the point of the gun over the joint, the solder melts in about 2 seconds, one quick spurt of the vacuum sucks it all up, and you move on.  Really clean removal, too (took maybe 5 pads desoldered to get it down real smooth - at first I was holding it slightly off-vertical so it wasn't getting perfect suction, but after I got the hang of it it was super easy).

I'd say the "hardest" part of using it is the weight.  You need to hold the weight of a soldering iron + pump.  But that wasn't too hard to do.

I fear I may come across as overly pushy here, but honestly after I used it for the first time I was blown away by how easy it was to use, and how quick it was.

Unfortunately the only reason I'm selling it is because I need some money, so I think I'll pass.  Though, just out of curiosity, do you have any pictures of this 1800?   ;D

One case is 80‰ painted and the other 90‰. One is orange and the other fuji blue matte clear coat. The rest needs to be rebuilt with the plate, but that is easy peasy if I have a nice desoldering iron  ;)

Whats the advantage of this one versus a 14.99 one from Radioshack which to me, seems to work very well?

This has a pump in it, so it's loads easier and quicker to operate.  Plus, it's built wayyyy better than the cheap stuff from Radioshack.  If the $14.99 one you've got works fine for you that's great, but this one really is much better.  :D

jinxed posted a video a few replies back showing how easy it is.  And for reference, I was desoldering a bit faster than the guy in the video once I got the hang of it.

I hate the Radioshack iron with a passion.  I have used it on 2 Filcos, replacing the tip 4 times.  Never again.  Soldapullt can be had for the same amount of money as the Radioshack iron and works much better, and the tips don't fall apart after half an hour of use.  This iron is even better.

This is a very good tool at a very reasonable price.
whatever youve bought from radioshack is a piece of ****.

The tips and filters for this are readily available at multiple outlets for very little money. If you can get replacements for the ratshack trash, you will likely only find them at ratshack.

If the hakko breaks, all of its parts are replaceable.  Basically with the hakko, like any good tool, buy it once, buy it for life, pass it down to your kids when you die. If the ratshack breaks, it goes in the trash. Buy it multiple times, place it directly into the garbage after each use.

The hakko is variable temperature, the rat shack is just a **** pen iron. The hakko has more suction than the ratshack one can even imagine.

There really isnt a way for me to say with words how much better the hakko is because I am too stupid. But when you finally use a real tool, you will see the massive difference and you will wonder why you ever afflicted that ratshack trash upon yourself.

lol.

Of course the Hakko is better! But Ive desoldered two boards with the radioshack one and it still works fine, so I think Ive gotten more than my money's worth already. Your post will be become increasingly idiotic with each project I complete with it.

zool, the advantage of the hakko is that it will allow you desolder more quickly, and will almost certainly provide cleaner joints.

Truth. I used one for over a year. Soldapults are really great, but I had a lot of trouble with smaller joints like LED's and such. The 808 made that pretty easy, and kept it really clean.
The one thing you need to watch out for is temperatures. You don't want to mess with the adjustments and make it too hot, because you can actually damage the PCB depending on
the quality of it. Since there is no accurate way to measure the exact temp on the 808.

Don't worry, I've got a Hakko 808 that I used once I'll be selling soon, if you're interested PM me. It's got all the goodies, tips, etc. and holder with brass cleaner. It blew away the Rat**** thingy, and a Soldaput and iron, no contest. I have a Hakko 951 with tons of extras as well. I have a whole lockable soldering kit box with everything you could possibly need.

BroCaps---thanks for the Amazon link showing the 1mm extra long tip, can be VERY helpful. It's the only thing I don't have.
