Costar stabilizers with new keycaps
« on: Mon, 25 November 2013, 17:19:53 »
I recently bought some new keycaps and want to put them on my Filco, on the many of the stabilized keys, the white pegs that you put into the key barely hang on and are very loose causing the key to become very hard the press if you press it on once side. Any idea how I could make the pegs stay in the key? Thanks!

I use a 1cm square of plastic ziplock bag over the stem before I put the insert in.

Others have used tissue paper or teflon tape (although I suspect the first would tear too easily and the second is way too thin).
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I use small squares of thick plastic shoppingbag handles (old school grocery bag). Works really well
