Quiet blues?
« on: Tue, 03 December 2013, 21:57:19 »
Is there a mod to quiet the click on blue switches? I have whites, which I like (apart from the mild inconsistency in click) when modded with lighter switches. So, is there anyway to make 'ghetto whites' out of blues?

That, or you can do the rather time-consuming jailhouse blue mod.

Increase the price and decrease its appeal to anyone with common sense.

I wonder what makes the click softer in an MX white switch?

Does anyone want their blues to click even louder? I would still use o-rings to dampen the bottoming-out but I love the sound of blues clicking it sounds sexy  :p

Or it increases the stability of the top case and stem, depending on who you ask.  :p

I've heard of people receiving blue switches which don't make the click noise.  I think it has something to do with the leg that causes the noise being pressed in too much.  Next time I have some blue switches I'll check it out

the question is paradoxical in itself  :)) I dont know about modding and all. but I think brown= blues tactility without clicky noise. You can further dampens the noise with O-rings and lubing.

But i like my keyboard to be noisy. It gives me satisfaction while typing  :thumb:

O-rings, lube, trampoline mod, take your pic. Also, take this pic:

Click is caused by the slider hitting the bottom of the switch stem, so anything you use to dampen the impact of the slider will reduce noise.

If you have the time and skill, the "jailhouse blue" mod is the way to go.

A much quicker and easier thing to try is landing pads. I prefer O-rings on all the other Cherries, but landing pads with blue switches.

I think that they cost about $12-15 from elite keyboards.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

for all we know, someone in gh might actually be a serial killer, but is addicted to keyboards

In that case, his weapon of choice would be a Model F.

Do we know of anyone who specializes in Model F's?   :-\ I vote that we all send our home addresses to fohat for evaluation.  :D

I still think CF should mark each keycap and take a photo so that in the future people could authenticate the markings. Each one is a little work of art unto itself, why not treat them as such? Even if these fakes are obvious fakes, they're likely to get better -- especially if we show the forger exactly where they fell short. So with a unique marking on each and a photo you'll make it harder to mass produce a lot of fake CCs. Sure, you might be able to make one really good forgery, of a single one, but multiples of the same one (with the same markings) would set off some alarm bells.

It's not perfect, but it would be better than letting a forger prosper.

Not true, browns are much less tactile than blues.

just note jailhouse blues are not clicky, it basically turns them into a brown/ergo clear style switch with a higher actuation point.

Ah I see. I always assumed that jailhouse blues were blues with black springs, because people in jail wear those black and white clothes....now I see its a jailhouse because they're stuck together
