Seems nobody really likes Blues here, but I personally love Blues. Also I really like the sound of Model F, Topre, and somewhat Brown. (unfortunately the sound is one of the only things that I like about Topre switches)

If you're looking for pure volume, I'd say Buckling Spring switches are the noisiest. They have a fun, retro, sound that makes you feel like you're typing at an old school computer (at least for me). Personally, I love the sound of topre switches, and lubed non-clicky mx switches. BS are close behind. Clicky is ok, but a bit annoying. Never really tried/heard ALPS.

When I got a Solidtek ASK-6600U, a relatively recent board with Alps-style switches, I found it the loudest of all.  However, I suspect there's variations-- a worn switch might sound differently.

You can dampen buckling springs to make them slightly less harsh sounding. You still may not like them, but it's worth a listen.

Blue ALPS sound amazing. Somewhat related, I have a Chicony keyboard with Monterey Blues (Blue ALPS clones) and I love how it sounds. It's so crisp sounding. I like them better than Cherry Blues (both in sound and feel). I'd imagine I'd love Blue ALPS more, but I need to get a board with them first.

The sound of a keyboard on YouTube will probably be quite different to how exactly the same keyboard would sound on your desk.

So saying, my favourite is probably buckling spring, followed by Topre, followed by an old NEC clicky keyboard I have, followed by MX green/blue.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Have you tried the simulated keyboards on misterinterface.com? When you type on your keyboard you can hear the sound made on the simulated keyboard, includes spacebar and modifiers. While it is accurate for the boards I have personally typed on I think the recordings were made typing normally without excessive bottoming-out.

From that site, I like avant prime (northgate omni), siig, sgi, hhkb and others too.

How do I know that site? Lol, I listen every night before sleep so sad

But yeah be careful when you have headphones on and you try the IBM Selectric. I almost died of fright, hahaha. Can you imagine working in an office full of IBM electric typewriters. I have considered buying one just for fun and I have two manual typewriters but they are too hard to type on (you'll get RSI lol).

Which other ones you like to listen to?  ;)

Yeah, turn up the bass!

Maybe we can make a techno hit from the sound of mechanical keyboards with Fergie rapping  :p

Even the old typists needed correct technique maybe even more so cause on manual typewriters you had to strike the keys much harder. My Auntie was a secretary and has crippling arthritis in her hands.

Go to www.misterinterface.com and on right hand column 'sim', click link button next to the keyboard you wanna hear. You should just see a picture of the keyboard (not a video), and then start typing on your own keyboard... and please turn up the volume to maximum!  ;D

For some reason people find it annoying but I love blues as someone here already stated, although the topre sound is pretty satisfying if you ask me not as nearly loud as blues tho.
This sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before.

That's a highly sought after board! But can you live with the layout? Small backspace and backslash next to it.

Man, why do keyboards all have to be so different and difficult. For example, why aren't vortex selling/making Poker 2 backlit ansi US version. grrrrrrrr

A few of these NIB have gone on eBay recently, if you get one make sure you ask them to pop the cap off and take a picture so you know you're getting the monterey one  :)

I think this keyboard is Mr. Interface's personal favorite too, so you must have some good taste   :thumb:

Yeah, i might watch the video again now. But I wish Mr. Interface would go more in depth about it. And he always says funny things like "full-frontal nudity shots" of keyboards. Man, he must make these videos in a nudist colony. Maybe he has a natural detector for satisfying key feel

Hehehe, the state of our countries' relationships is quite silly. But politics is not for these boards lol. Hey, we use ANSI here not ISO. Search "asmr keyboard" on youtube and you will see all these sexy woman with long fingernails typing on cherry keyboards and making the listeners gasp at the beautiful sound of her typing. If you're lucky she will gently caress the keyboard from left to right with the lightest of touches, and her full bosoms will be resting ever so gently on the table top as she types for our aural pleasure. At that point I will go to typeracer and beat the hell out of my keyboard bottoming out with full force with each and every keystroke trying to eliminate the opposition and so diffuse my heightened state of arousal. BTW is geekhack PGA 15+?

That's a highly sought after board! But can you live with the layout? Small backspace and backslash next to it.

Monterey blue switches are exquisite, but the actual sound portion is a bit tinny. Not nearly as annoying as Cherry blues, of course.

I can accept a bigass Enter, but the small Backspace is just about a deal-killer for me.

The best sound, to my ears, is a floss-modded Model F. Floss modding is far more satisfying on an F than an M.

Second best is blue Alps, especially if you can find good solid keycaps to go on them.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.

I think the UNIVAC sounds nice and clicky:

And of course, the beam spring has a nice sound - like a more substantial Model F, without the high pitched ping.

Buckling Springs for me.  They are very noisy, very tactile and have a wonderful feel and sound to them.  I love typing on them but due to the noise I cant use them as much a I would like.

That's the board I have. (Mine is re-branded as Ultra, but has the same model number (KB-5181), switches, layout and case) If only it had a full sized backspace! I may eventually pull the switches and put them into something custom.

I picked it up for $2 from a local recycling store that holds its keyboards for me to look through. In exchange, I have to teach them how each switch works by taking some of the keyboards apart and showing them.

Wow,you really really lucky :))
you may can order custom in SP :)

Monterey pins are different from everything else, or I would have done this a long time ago.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

When I have money and time (mainly time), I'll create and make/order my own PCB for them if I still care enough in the future.
