KMAC2 keycap set
« on: Tue, 17 December 2013, 12:18:04 »
Please help. I'm in the UK trying to build a KMAC2
I have just had a key cap set delivered and the space bar and bottom row of keys are the wrong size.
I've bought a winkeyless KMAC2 what set of key caps do I need.

Sounds like you need 1.5x modifiers and a 7x space bar

Thanks for the reply but i don't understand what you mean by 1.5X and 7X are these the size of key caps i need.
I want to buy a full set of blank keys to fit the frame and PCB.

We call them tsangan kits.

What key cap set did you buy?

I bought a Filco Majestouch cap set, it looks like all the keys would be OK except for the bottom row, where the space bar is too short

Cause the spacebar is 6.25x instead of 7x which the kmac uses.  :blank:

You don't want to put that horrid set on a board as nice as the KMAC!

Here, the 'otaku' (no legends) version of this is compatible with your KMAC and they are the finest PBT keycaps you'll find anywhere.

Keycaps are measured in unit size, where the alpha keys are 1 unit. The bottom row total is 15 units, and there are two common configurations:

1.25 | 1.25 | 1.25 | 6.25 | 1.25 | 1.25 | 1.25 | 1.25

1.5 | 1 | 1.5 | 7 | 1.5 | 1 1.5

You bought the first and you need the second. As codyeatworld said, these care called tsangan kits and can sometimes be bought separately, so you shouldn't have to buy an entire set.

Unfortunately, a tsangan set for the Filco set he purchased is not available anywhere.

Thanks everyone.
I don't mind buying a full new set of Keys but can anyone tell where i can get a plain black set or any set at all that would fit.

The major vendors that sell keycaps directly to you and quickly would be:

http://www.originativeco.com/
http://www.keypop.net/
http://techkeys.us/

Just make sure you get a set that includes 1.5x modifiers and a 7x spacebar, or a winkeyless/tsangan kit that matches the set.

We also run group buy for sets:

Heres are the current group buys: http://geekhack.org/index.php?board=70.0
Heres a quick look at the previous buys: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=49524.0

If you don't mind waiting a bit... I will be rebooting a cheaper GMK white/grey doubleshots in US/GB and if you would prefer blanks I am looking at getting an add on pack to take care of ISO, 1.5 mods, 7x space and more to go along with black blank PBT buy.
