Busted Gigabyte Osmium, Got Firmware?
« on: Sat, 21 December 2013, 03:52:09 »
They had a broken keyboard, I bought a broken keyboard...

Picked up a busted Gigabyte Osmium keyboard (Cherry MX reds).
This thing is pretty well built but... none of the standard typical keys work.
The volume knob and macro keys all work though.
After researching I found out that it is a problem that has been happening to people with the same board.
something something bad firmware

I have started the whole tech support shenanigans but....
Does anyone have experience with this?

Oh, and I also just got my $18 Gigabyte Aivia Osmium... it's like brand new, except it does not work. It seems to be missing the firmware as well. I can program the macro key and those work just fine. A quick look reveals the firmware erasing itself seem to be a common problem with these... LOL. Considering the pain of dealing with Gigabyte tech support it is no wonder the previous owner just said to hell with this! It's not really my kind of keyboard, but it is build fairly well. It almost seems a shame to cannibalize something I know would be an easy fix if I had the ability to flash some working firmware on the thing :))
If anyone successful in getting firmware for these, please let me know!

IVAN! Sorry, didn't see this until now (still getting used to this forum design).
I was one of the buyers of those 3!  :D

Seems like the firmware was given by the moderators on the Gigabyte aivia forums.
But you have to get into their tech support sub forum after you register your serial number with them (they still havent sent reply back to me about that).

Good news
Warranty on my board doesn't expire until 1/15/2015 so I got a RMA approved and sent it to California to get fixed.
Your warranty is most likely still valid since this keyboard is not 2 years old from release yet (I think?).

Bad news
Gotta slap on about 16 bucks to ship it to Cali.

If all works out, it will be a keyboard for ~$34 that is in pretty pristine condition.

I opened it up to check it out more and a bunch of chips including the primary controller were MELTED literally not much left than a globs of burned plastic materials. Seems quite odd they seem to have internal hub with another controller for only the macros part. I got too impatient to try and deal with their terrible customer service/tech supports so I ended up parting mine out already.

Nice that you had more luck with them.

WOW! mine looked absolutely fine inside.
For RmA all I did was enter my SN into their site and then boom, approved.

Lucky me I guess

I bought a bunch of them off ebay last year. Never found a way to fix them but they were great for harvesting Cherry Reds on the cheap.
Daily Drivers: GON NerD60 (PBT / Gateron Black / UV LED), GH60 Rev.C (PBT / Gateron Black), WASD Code VP3 (Stock / Cherry Clear / White LED), NPKC KC60 (DS PBT / Gateron Green / White LED), Adesso 625UB (White English-Russian Thick PBT/ Cherry Red), Quickfire Rapid (Vortex PBT / Cherry Black), Quickfire Rapid-I (Stock+o-rings / Cherry Red / Green LED), Leopold Otaku (Black Gray mixed Dolch Thick PBT / Cherry Red).
