Post your Cherry legend dye-subs!
« on: Wed, 25 December 2013, 09:49:12 »
Okay so I've pretty much got all the double-shot Cherry/GMK caps I want so now I want to start getting the dye subs as well. I know there was an all white set with RGB mods that I liked the look of, not sure what group buy they were from though. Post pics of what you've got so I know what to add to my list  :thumb:
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Imsto cherry replica caps are really nice quality, and are at a great price. Personally, I just couldn't stand how blurry some of the legends were. Most people probably don't mind as it isn't very noticeable at all, but I really couldn't deal with the blur on my set. I then bought an overall good condition (but with a few scratches) original Cherry dyesub set (from a 3000SAU) and simply can't go back to any other MX keycaps. They're perfect in every way. The legends look just as crisp as GMK (unless you look SUPER close), they never yellow so the colours will always remain perfect, and of course the don't shine. Now I just need to get a perfect condition set without the scratches (unfortunately.. the price of these sets is ridiculously high).

A BSP set from Originative is just as good (except no numpad and spacebar). Personally, I couldn't use a set from Originative because the F&J keys have nipples instead of scoops which I find super uncomfortable, but if you don't mind them I'd 100% recommend a set for $135 (or $85 without legends). If you want the perfect Cherry legend PBT dyesub set, you like black on beige (worth noting original dyesubs come in some interesting flavors - pics at the end), and you own a winkeyless keyboard.. GO FOR THEM!

For reference :
Great photos of an original ANSI Cherry dyesub set (on a G81-3116SDU)
Great photos of an original CZ layout Cherry dyesub set (G81-3004SAT)
Great photos of an original ANSI w/ cyrillic Cherry dyesub set (ESA-3000HASRO [G80])
Great photos comparing KBC (IMSTO) dyesubs to original Cherry dyesubs. Black legends = Cherry, blue legends = KBC

JUST WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR :

I'M NOT SAYING THE LEGENDS ON IMSTO CAPS ARE SUPER BLURRY, I'M JUST SUPER PICKY. THEY ARE GREAT CAPS.

Cheers Tekq! To be honest I kind of agree about the Imsto subs, just never new why they were so different.

Looks like I need to start looking for some Cherry subbed boards.

I love the white dyesub set with RGB mods. I missed out on a classifieds deal on them and the only one I could find is from feng for like $95 :( if anyone has any used ones (blank white or printed with RGB mods) I'm interested!!

That said I have a set of blue legends coming from projectD soon, so excited :)

Where does the cherry replica come from?

Signature Plastics.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Cherry replica dyesubs come from me, produced with imsto.

Only Cherry profile dyesubs sets with deepdish home keys are the vintage 1985-92 Cherry originals. However not all of them have, some have no homing indicator just normal row C key.

Cheers for the info regarding the home keys! I should probably be looking at G80-3000 winkeyless layouts to try and find those yeah?

Yes G80/G81-1***S*U/30**S*U are most common ANSI. Be prepared to pay $200+ for vintage original sets in ANSI. If you don't mind ISO layouts getting D German sets is far easier and much less expensive in general. Not uncommon to find them on ebay.de for less than €20.

Look for 3000s/1000s with 'S' in them, e.g G81-3000SAU, G81-3116SDU, G81-3100SPBUS, etc. << all ANSI layout, super rare and super expensive. If you're okay with ISO de then check here a set
