I know this requires a teensy and soarers to work, http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=17458.0. I have signed up for jdcarpe's GB to get the teensy.
What I want to know is what should I be looking out for when cleaning the board? Do I pull off the caps with my regular wire cap puller, or is there something different? And when opening it, will anything fall out?
Also where can I get novelty caps? Unicomp? http://pckeyboard.com/page/category/SBLE are these all the novelty caps or are there others?

You can pull of the caps with a regular keycap puller. Nothing will fall out, however springs will be exposed and if you are rough it is possible to damage the springs, yet unlikely. I've never hurt a spring while disassembling or reassembling a board.
The interesting part: you may have troubles replacing the caps. If you place a cap on and they key doesn't click anymore, reseat the keycap. The spring is just not in the right position for proper actuation, it is not necessarily broken. It sometimes helps to tilt the keyboards backwards so the springs lay differently.
From what I've found, there are no other places to get them (except for maybe artisan caps, but I may be wrong as custom caps are not my forte). You can make them by drilling out another cap and gluing it to the buckling spring mechanism on each cap, but that'd be a pain for ALL of the caps. Only really useful for novelty caps that you don't mind cutting up.
