Good news for those wanting a Topre keypad
« on: Mon, 30 December 2013, 23:11:43 »
There is some talk about Topre possibly releasing a new lower cost keypad next year. For this reason we're going to put off any IC for the 23UB. I'll share details here as I get more info on it.

What force is it and I'd want a white one to match my white board >:U
.. and it better not map to the num row like the other Leopold one does

The current 23u(b) performs as it should for a number pad, unlike that Leopold one. I would assume their new one would as well (though who really knows...).

That is the 23u. *facepalm*
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Some prefer white but once you go black you'll never go back!

But I like to mix it up and put the key caps from the white on the black so really both are best.

To be honest, I'd still personally prefer the 23UB to match my 87UB, even if it means shelling out a premium.

So want it. I need a number pad for my work. Right now, I use Autohotkey to simulate one on my QFR in office.
All those keyboards will be lost in time....

I'm going to take a bet. I say 60. I have a hard time thinking Topre keypads would cost any less.

You mean aside from the fact that the 23u(b) went for ~$120 brand new from EK?

Originally I was thinking $80, but they're probably trying to be more competitive with other MX alternatives and can't be more then double the price. Again just speculating, but I think they're going for a higher quality version then the type heaven but for a keypad.

We'll just have to wait and see :)

Unless Topre comes out with a mechanism for DIY Topre keyswitches, I unfortunately cannot afford to let myself care (it hurts too much).

Ahhh ... such optimism :)

But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

So do we have any legitimate info or just pure smoke?

Might as well say they will be backlit.

I've been talking to EK about doing an IC/Group Buy for the 23UB and I was just notified that there are talks of a new keypad from Topre possibly coming out this month. This might explain why they slowed production of the 23's.
