What is this rubber thing for?
« on: Sun, 05 January 2014, 13:57:49 »
In my quest to find the perfect keyboard I think I've found it, around 20 keyboards later might I add, I've landed on the Noppoo Choc Mini with Blue Switches, (very reasonable price to in the UK from Amazon)

Though, in the box I received something I've never seen before, this rubber key cover, it fits perfectly on the keys and you can type through it really well which is something I've actually grown to quite like when I need to typing a little quieter (When I take it to the office).

However, I just wanted to know, what actually is it for? Am I even meant to be typing with it on?

Dust/Anti-spill Cover. Remove it before you type, put it back on so dust and other stuff doesn't get on your keyboard when you step away. If you type with it on, it feels like a bad version of the TG3's rubber mat thingy.

My Ducky has something similar, but it is thin but rigid plastic.  Keeps the dust off really well.

I just use a tea towel on my other keyboards.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Looks very useful. Anybody know where we can buy these for tenkeyless boards?

I recently purchased a Noppoo choc mini for myself for christmas and I received the same thing. I guess it's just a dust cover. At least that's what I use it for...

A fancy packaging material, that happens to make a good dust cover.

I've always called them keyboard condoms. For safe keyboarding.

Oh, I want one! I have it on my typematrix and it's great for blocking the upstroke noise as well as limiting the amount of dust that gets into the gaps between keycaps.
