anyway to repair kensington slimblade?
« on: Wed, 08 January 2014, 12:39:04 »
i bought one off ebay and used it for about a year. now there's a problem moving the cursor up and down. i think over the course the year, when i remove the smudges around the sensor, i have broken the delicate red covering on the sensor. i think that is the main culprit why the sensor is not working properly now. is it beyond repair? has anyone encounter similar problem? before it was just a matter of removing the smudges and the problem is gone. now the surface is pristine clean yet it's not working properly.
i'm totally bummed. now kensington requires a sales receipt before sending out a replacement whereas before they didn't require one.
just how many people actually keep a sales receipt after a year of use anyways?

I do, its a 5 year warranty. I had mine replaced for a similar fault, except it was my horizontal sensor. vertical was fine, but horizontal slowly faded out over 2 weeks to zero. still could scroll though.

I"m sad to hear you've killed your slimblades... that's why I always clean my mice with q-tips. Ultimately these are 'precision instruments' and you don't want to make them less precise...
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.
